One thing to know about tubular bells is that they do not vibrate the same as a string where harmonics are multiples of the principal vibration mode. Instead the "harmonics" are discordant with the main note. It gives them a different tonal character. Vibrating string behavior is described by the "wave equation". Tubular bells are described by a different equation (which I can't recall) but I learned about when I was making tubular bells using the Dorian scale.

You might have had the same thing happen as me. I ordered a 24 volts wind generator, it had a sticker on it said 24v, but its a 12 volts unit. If the wind gets up to about 30+, it will get up to 25 volts or so for a few moments. Instead of going through the hassle of sending it back, I rewired the batteries to 12 volts and got another inverter. My main inverter is 24 volts. One time I had a vacation, didnt make plans, was just out driving, anyways I was way out in the Western part of Kansas, and there was a garage out in the middle of nowhere with no electric going to it. I saw something turning, so I went to check it out. These guys had a wind generator similar to yours, except they had taken three identical Datsun fenders and used them for their blades. They had what looked like an alternator off a bus running off a belt drive at the bottom. They had concreted a big truck rearend into the ground with one axle sticking up, then extended it. It was a Sunday, they werent there. They must have had batteries inside and an inverter, or something. That was wheat country, no trees for miles. I guess there was no good way to get power there. But it was pretty inventive. They had plenty of wind out there. They had the alternator running off the pinion gear to speed it up. They had part of a '35 Chevy made into a rat rod. I thought, those guys could build anything...I tried to get ahold of Tony at Hurricane Wind Power, but I think he was sick at the time. Thats been a couple of years ago. I bought five blades and a hub from him off of eBay, and he included a couple of business cards, but no answer on the phone, so I just waited. Nice that you got ahold of him. I think the blades I bought fit the 1 kw Vortec. Theyre called Stealth Storm blades. Just from my experience with this little Chinese windmill, I dont think youre going to get much wattage on the ground. I live almost at the top of a hill in oklahoma. It gets very windy here sometimes. My wind generator is 16 feet high because if I put it any higher, lightning will hit it. There was a storm a couple months back and 85 mph winds came through here for about fifteen minutes ahead of a storm. I dont think your blades would hold up here. Ive had mine turn so fast that they sound like a UFO taking off. Had a small twister rip the tail fin in half about six weeks ago. I made a new one out of steel instead of the cheesy aluminum one it came with. Its charging twelve marine batteries, and I have two 100 watts solar panels helping when its not very windy. The batteries are showing 12.76 volts at 7p.m. Just from watching some of your videos, I think the imbalance is because there's no hub for the blade supports. If there was something round to attach the blades to, it would be easier to balance. By just having spokes welded to a shaft, its not precise enough. The center rotating mass is kind of balanced but not straight enough somewhere. It might have worked with something like a matching pair of motorcycle wheels which are already balanced. But not with little pieces of pipe welded to a shaft. I hope you continue this series, because I want to see you put it in the top of that big tree swaying in the breeze. If you can get it there, at least you have a pretty good chance of your video going viral...you could have spun the alternator with a drill to see how much voltage its going to make. Now you have it all put together. And dont know what voltage youre going to get. Those blades are never going to make 24 volts. Mine was all in a box. I changed a few things, but it was just a put it together kit type thing. I found out really quick that it wasnt a 24 volts stator. It likes to make 18-21 volts a lot. I dont think you will ever get it turning fast enough unless you make it horizontal instead of vertical. The problem with those is, the blades have to return against the wind before being pushed again. Not a constant flow against the blades. That results in a lower rpm. Im going to build a wind turbine with these other blades and hub. I have to get my welder set up and build a 7/8 " shaft up to one inch in one spot for the hub taper. Im going to just mount the blades and hub on the shaft, which is on two bolt pillow block bearings. The end of the shaft will have a drive pulley so I can test different alternators on it. I could put a DC generator on it if I wanted. Its just an experiment. I have a one half horsepower DC motor that makes 79 volts when I wrapped a cord around the two and a half inch pulley. I may put it on there. It should make 400 watts in a stiff breeze. I would go up with my 16 inch Stihl chainsaw and clean the top of that big tree out a little bit. I would get back and eyeball it where the turbine needs to go, and I would proceed to get it put up there. You just said thats where it needed to go. That's like here, the wind increases on this hill. Yeah, I would go horizontal shaft on your wind generator. You get it up there in that tree, but clean the middle out. That little alternator needs to be spinning like that, then it will make some juice. Just get you a good set of blades and hub. Mine are just 28 inches on the one Im building. Four foot eight blade circle. Plus the hub makes it five feet. Thats as big as youre gonna need. Your alternator looks sort of like mine, except I can only see the front because of the housing. Theres a little bit of wind, mine is making fifty watts. Might rain later. Its bumping a hundred watts in a gust. I hope you get yours lined out. I would put these five blades and hub on it. And stick it up in the tree where it belongs, lol. Cut enough out of the middle and strap a pipe to the tree. Well its not going to blow your windmill pole down, is it? The thing you have will be impossible to put in the tree. But you will never be happy until it is there. Therefore, it must be remodeling time, I think. To get wattage out of that alternator if yours, its going to have to be spinning much faster than the bat wing express you have going there. Just saying. If you put it in the tree, youre going to get 24 volts. Youve got some wind there. Enough to spin that thing. But its never going to spin fast enough until you turn it sideways instead of vertical. The Chinese alternators you and I have are pretty similar. I know mine has to be spinning pretty good to make 200 watts. The blades you have will never reach 400 rpm. A set of blades and hub would be balanced better than what you have. The imbalance is going to keep you from reaching enough rpm. It will constantly be robbing kinetic energy from the spinning mass, trying to jerk it sideways. That force slows the rotation down. My wind generator gets up to a certain speed, maybe 13 mph winds, and the blade tips make this almost whistling sound. Then it disappears. Once I hear that, and it speeds up past that sound, I know that its putting some pretty good amps into the batteries. Those batteries are on 12.96 v now. Well, be careful while tree trimming. 😊

Very nice! I believe Sharp's design calls for +/- 45 degrees of movement before hitting the stops. Your wings are quite large compared to their weight, so it might be moving a lot to align with the apparent wind. That isn't bad with flat airfoils, but it will make them hit the stops more. I think that generator is only capable of around 6 watts (I have one too. :-) )

4) How does this type of filtration compare to paper oil filters? We use ASTMF316 testing procedures which eliminate many of the user variables found in the SAE procedures. Basically, the filter media is pressurized from one side, and when the media starts passing particles, that is the micron rating. We sent filter media from several common brands of paper filters to the lab to be run through the ASTM test. We sent the media to the lab with no names, just numbers for identification so they wouldn’t have any idea what brand filter they were testing. The results for the paper filters ranged from 48 microns for the best filter to over 300 microns for the worst filter. Our tests were right in line with other testing results we have researched that have paper media filters passing particles anywhere between 50 and 90 microns. What does this mean? Paper filters are rated on averages, percentages of efficiency (also known as beta ratios) and multiple passes, so a 10 micron rated paper filter (as advertised on the packaging) may be letting particles 50 microns and larger through. The medical grade stainless steel cloth that we use is consistent across the entire media surface and is rated at 35 microns, meaning nothing larger than 35 microns should pass through the material. The bottom line is we meet or exceed the filtration performance of OEM filters, eliminating any warranty issues.
