Kohima, November 25: The 68th National School Games, organized by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) in collaboration with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), featured the U-19 Girls' Sepak Takraw event at Hall B, IG Stadium in Kohima. The competition brought together 17 teams from various states across the country to showcase their skills in the exciting sport of Sepak Takraw. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, and General Secretary of the Nagaland Olympic Association, as the special guest. Metha extended his warm wishes to all the participants and highlighted Nagaland’s significant contributions to India in various fields, including music and sports, which have brought pride to the nation. Metha emphasized Kohima’s historical importance, noting its pivotal role in world history and the preservation of democracy. Addressing the athletes, he remarked, "Each of you is a champion," and congratulated them for their participation. He highlighted the values taught by sports, such as discipline, perseverance, and the commitment to excel, encouraging athletes to give their best, make friendships across the country, and respect the spirit of the games. He concluded by underscoring the unifying power of sports in bringing people together. Keoshu, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, also addressed the gathering, sharing his thoughts on the event. The program was led by DYRS Director Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS, with Pastor Neisakuolie Keseiyie, Director of ABCTK, offering a prayer for blessings. Anthony Ngullie, NCS Secretary of YRS, delivered the welcome address. Cultural performances were presented by #Hibolomi Village (Cultural Troupe) and Tuophema Village (Youth and Sports Organization), who showcased traditional folk tunes. Additionally, a representative from SGFI delivered a brief speech to mark the occasion.
