Yoga was not originally created specifically to adjust chakras, but the two concepts are closely interconnected. Yoga originated in ancient India thousands of years ago as a holistic practice aimed at achieving spiritual enlightenment, self-realization, and union of the body, mind, and spirit. The primary goal of early yoga was liberation (moksha) or freedom from the cycle of rebirth (samsara). Over time, yoga evolved through various techniques including postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, and ethical principles. The concept of chakras comes from ancient Indian spiritual traditions and is rooted in the body's energy system. This idea is found in texts like the Upanishads and became more prominent in Tantric traditions. Chakras are considered energy centers in the body that correspond to different physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life. As yoga practices evolved, especially in the Tantric tradition, balancing and aligning chakras became important for spiritual awakening and overall well-being. So, while yoga wasn’t created solely to adjust chakras, the practices of breathwork, meditation, and specific postures have become intertwined with chakra work over time, particularly to help balance energy and promote holistic health. Heather, I have a question. "Asking for a friend." I know you ladies stated that you should talk to an instructor to choose what is right for you, however, some people may be a little introverted and would rather not go to a Yoga Studio or Rec Center, so are there some books, DVD, or event KZbin channels you could recommend. Or should someone just go to a Yoga class first and then find something for home? What advice to you have? On another note: You both should put your websites in the comments or description. Just a thought.

Thank you for the question. there are a tone of things on line and a ton of books. The Yoga Habit: A beginner's complete yoga self-practice guide is a book that is under $10 When it comes to videos or something to follow along I would search yoga for beginners. You can watch the video 1st and then try it. I always recommend a in person class so someone can help you adapt if you need alternate posture or props. The key is always listen to your body. When you're considering chosen change, I am a bit of a "hard-to-get started" guy. Not always, but sometimes. I feel it is the fear of failure thing is often the motivation dissolvent. So, this hit a very positive forward cord for me. I agree, "The Bountiful Yogi," is nicely meditative.
