This really is a masterpiece! I remember the Atkins record, which isn't the complete arrangement as played here by Richard Smith, who throws in the very nice modulated section. Richard has truly eclipsed the fingerpickers who inspired him, and has risen to the top of a very slippery pole. I like his friendly, affable style of presentation too.

I love everything this man plays. I'm a ragtime pianist and have heard many guitar ragtime pickers. This is fantastic.

Exquisitely done. What a joy it is to hear you play. Saw you once at the Blue Bird Cafe back in the early 90's and made a fool of myself by challenging you to a playoff. Luckily, you were sober and declined! lol

I wish there wasn't that blasted echo from the speakers or whatever is happening there, that is really annoying.

Thanks for sharing. I love his singing and playing. I’d like to think that he and his dad, Chet, Jerry, and Buster B are all together having a good ol’ jam session.

Love this version. Superb song but little variation so needs something to pick it up a bit. you didn't lose the original melody but made it your own.

Back in ol’ ‘72 I had a semi-private shop in the back of what then was the coolest place in town to work. I had a radio back there and Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen came on the air with Bill doing the Telecaster lead for “Hot Rod Lincoln”. Bill contributed into making that epic year one of the best summers of my life. Bill Kirchen; Master of the ‘Caster.

Self-effacing, humble and lovely to a fault. I have two of his “Signature” instruments from Paul Beard, a MA 6 and an MA 8, both signed by Mike, and I never missed the opportunity to listen to his brilliant playing, and watch his inspirational musicianship. I’m 81 next week, but I think of him every time I pick up my guitar. RIP, Mike, and thanks to one of my musical heroes!

I'm sure Scott Joplin would be giving a standing ovation upon seeing this performance. Richard Smith's guitar transposition has all the harmonies of the piano music; not a single triad is missing. And that down-tuning of the bass string at the end...wow!
