Yeah, TBH, if you don't know, and you don't have any more lifelines, the smart thing to do is to walk away. That's what he did, with $1 million. Robert Essig is a millionaire on Who Wants to Be a Super Millionaire!

There's a New York Times article from the time where the producers were worried about if they'd get complaints about Rob's boyfriend being on screen, and he won past the threshold where they invited the guests down to walk away with them. Rob's one of the first openly gay contestants on an American game show.

The only *$2,500,000* question to be ever asked in history of WWTBAM (not just _Super Millionaire_ version). Oh, and R.I.P. "Bob-O" and Regis.

4:42. Regis: Okay. "Which baseball player has played in the most number of World Series games?" Reggie Jackson, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Pee Wee Reese. 6:08. Joe: "Which baseball player has played in the most number of World Series games?" Reggie Jackson, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, or Pee Wee Reese. 7:52. Regis: If u miss here, you'll lose fifteen thousand, leave with one. Joe: Mm-hmm. Regis: But if u get it, you'll leave--u can't leave with less than thirty-two thousand dollars. 9:01. Joe: Let's-- let's go ahead & let's, pick B. Regis: You're gonna pick B? Joe: Yeah. Regis: Yogi Berra is going to be ur final answer? Joe: Yeah, I think so. Yes. Regis: Yogi Berra...is the right answer!

Those last two questions were not first-tier questions. I would've loved to have seen David return on the $0 winners special along with Robby Roseman and Stan Wu. The first two got a tough break on their early question(s) and I think Stan was probably one of the smartest of the $0 winners among those. I will always think the $0 winners special should've been a 3-day event.

I immediately had this answer right, and I have absolutely no idea why. It might be because I live in New York, and the whole "Buried under Giant Stadium thing" exposed me to some Hoffa trivia at some point. I never would've taken that shot though.

They were trying to nerf him by asking an almost impossible question because they knew he was a force to be reckoned with. He almost managed to beat the producers at their own game and outscheme them by having the phone-a-friend look up the answer on the internet. If only he were a little quicker, Steve got screwed out of the million he clearly deserved…he would’ve also been the youngest to ever do so in the US.

i knew this as soon as the question hit. i knew it was between 85m and 110m. 9.3, we would be in a fucking inferno, and same with 39. 193 would be cooler. 93’s the only one that makes any sense.
