Just watched a video posted by Railfan Tony V from Alberta of a loaded 1+2+1 potash train with the two Citi loci's with a dead mid train DPU stalling and being rescued. Immediately though of your videos and gave you a plug.

The extra power did it come from the crew change point at Crowsnest?

No,an eb was waiting at the siding and eb's are mainly empty so they gave the wb potash a loco.

I have a Model Railway in my Basement. From where I sit I can control 2-3 Trains. With DCC Controls and remote Control Switches, I can switch Trains onto Siding Tracks and park Them waiting on other Trains to pass. With AI coming into the Picture, I can see all Humanity taken out of Trains like this.

Years ago for Christmas, I received an HO Scale Bridge and Tressle Set. After which I could only take up 1/2 the Train. I later found out that It had a 6% grade. The most the Canadian Pacific Railway after construction in 1886 had was a 4%

The lines by my place are a little bit over 1%. I see 2 or 3 locomotives slug it out with 150 cars, and occasionally i see 225 cars with 4 locomotives working hard up the grade. The longest and heaviest trains I have seen were 250 cars with about I guess 30,000 tons on CPKC headed to the Lakehead at Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Anybody know the % grade here?
@demos967711 ай бұрын
2.2%
@demos967711 ай бұрын
I got dozens of stalls and rescues on my channel from here. They usually put just enough power on the trains here so if one is not up to 100% they stall like what happened here. Add some rain or snow and your gonna have a bad time. They cut the grade down in the 70's I think so they did not need pushers. The hill is still about 3 kilometers long with an s curve and track greasers so it is a hard pull untill they hit the BC border and then its all downhill.

I’ve always wondered, how steep is the frank slide? I’ve looked at it on google earth compared to places like the grande cache sub and the spiral tunnels and compared to those this looks like a 3% grade
@demos967711 ай бұрын
a little over 2%

TrainmanSky Click on the "show elevation" radio button in the "ruler tool" of Google Earth. It's under the "path" tab. You'll see a nice pinkish display open at the bottom of "Google earth." It will show you the grade (visually, not as a number) after you've selected the "start" and "finish" points. I use it to see if there's terrain interfering between my 2-meter ham radio antenna and the station I'm trying to talk with. It's a handy feature.
@demos967711 ай бұрын
I have done elevation shots with 2 separate gps units and it's approx 2.2% It used to be worse before they cut it down and pushers had to be used constantly.
