What proof that the ground here is actually flat ? What about the obvious refraction of the rails ? This has been attempted once but it just displayed the ground actually wasnt flat.

If you want this channel about railroad maintenance kzbin.info you will learn that railroads spend time and effort to make railroad tracks as level as possible to reduce wear and tear on the rail and the trains and cars riding on them. The section of railroad I used is actually slightly elevated at the far end, perhaps 1 foot or so. Which further reduces any chance of curvature drop occurring here. There is no real refraction here, the optical phenomenon is actually diffraction, the light rays are colliding and interfering with each other. This was not an observation of flatness, this was an observation that diffraction causes, in this case an entire person to disappear and meld into the scene. So what can happen over short distance close to a surface can also happen at greater distances with the observing point next to a surface, especially one with a high reflective index, like water.

@@RayleighCriterionheated metal rails warms the air above causing light to go through different densities of air, distorting the image and the real position of the man. That is refraction, don't know why you would try to deny that. Also I won't take your word about elevation.

It's nice to see other FE'ers doing these types of observations. Unfortunately YT is IMHO not only censoring us but they don't put out notifications to all of our subscribers. I've been losing my interest in doing observation because I'm not getting half the views I used to. Hey they openly admitted to congress of how they would censor us but my question to them is why censor us if FE is so easily debunked. It's pretty discouraging but I guess that is their goal.

It is not curvature, it is an optical illusion caused by Angular Resolution, Inverse Square Law and the Law of Reflections. My railroad videos have shown that curvature is not needed to make objects disappear. Because the tiny surface area of the bottom of the buildings are several magnitudes less reflective than tens of miles of water surface.

@@robz537It's not a masterpiece, not even close but that doesn't mean it's bad either nor is it good. It's like the 1st season of The Witcher enough to make you want more seasons, mostly because of the lack of satisfaction with how it ended cause i have more questions than answers than I've first started watching and some forced writing, a good example is how the main characters meet each other. All i can say in favour of the tv show is that it's better than Fallout 4's main story. This shows a solid 6 or 7 out of 10. Hope they improve if not it's gonna be another Witcher.

For more than 5 years, My wife and I have been going to the Humphrey Brook trail to walk. If it's not icy or really wet I like to walk a side trail that goes out to railway tracks. From the tracks, looking east, there is a bridge at one mile away, and a second bridge visible at two miles away. I can't tell you how many time I have climbed up there, but the tracks are always distorted, and warped out of sight before the first bridge, at one mile away.

Not a large field of view + blurry horizon can make it difficult to see a curve that is already slight at this height. If you think an horizon is flat, if its crisp enought you can try to compress the horizon left to right. This will extrapolate any amount of curvature there is. But if its truly flat, it will remain flat despite compression
