Thanks for putting the video together decent time for such a hilly course, compared to New York and London there wasn’t much crowd although looked like a decent crowd at the finish. Nice to see some local for me running club runners in your video, its on my to run list for 2025 and or 2026.

I'm pleased you enjoyed it, Bevan. I'm certain that the amount of support will increase over the years as the event becomes more established on the WMM circuit and Sydneysiders becopme more aware of this globally recognised event. I'm sure you'll enjoy it when you do enter :)

Great time. Well done. I believe that Sydney overtakes NYC marathon for elevation gain in a major. Now that it will be an Abbott major in 2025 I hope the crowds will be better. It looked quite quiet for a lot of the race. Next year the race will be moved to August so maybe they will start it later in the day and hopefully that will encourage spectators. I ran NYC marathon earlier this month and the crowds were unbelievable. I get goosebumps remembering the wall of noise there. Sydney will really have to go up a gear to make it worthy of being a major. Nice video, thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Mark. It's a super course and certainly challenging. I gave the organisers feedback to suggest having more entertainment along Anzac Parade and Centennial Park to encourage more spectators to attend. It was a very early start, so a bit later in the morning would probably help. It's a little disappointing that we didn't get a WMM star retrospectively too, but that's what they always said.

Hi Simon, great video. I'm running this next Saturday and the weather on the day (and leading up to it) is looking like a washout. I'm trying to work out whether to go road or trail (Inov8 Trailfly G270) so was wondering what the ratio of road to trail surfaces was like and if there were any areas that had the potential to get really muddy/boggy in those conditions? Thanks.
@NERunner
@NERunner Жыл бұрын
Thanks Karl, I hope it's given you a good feel for the event. Most of it is off road but on tarmac paths. The trail parts are between Crawcrook and Greenside, then again around Chopwell Woods, and finally a bit when you get to Derwent walk area. In my view only Chopwell might be claggy if it's very wet I ran it in road shoes and that's what I'd choose this weekend too.

@@NERunner Thanks Simon, certainly did and I'm really looking forward to it now. One last thing and then I'll leave you alone! How did you find the navigation? I'll have the GPX on my phone but ideally won't have to keep getting it out!
@NERunner
@NERunner Жыл бұрын
@@karlmaguire234 No problem, Karl :) It was all well marked and marshalled but I think some joker had been messing on with the directions markers, hopefully it was a one off. The only place that caused any problems was coming up from Wylam (heading south) where you bear left off Sled lane (w3w.co/dock.slept.shortens), then there's another bear left at the top of the hill (w3w.co/plotter.windpipe.pranced), followed by a switch back onto the side of the B6137 (w3w.co/flattered.asleep.finders - which heads west out of Crawcrook. You need to cross the road, and bypass (A695) to head up "anklebreak alley" which properly called Coalway Lane. Apart from that small section it's very obvious. 🙂 I hope that helps.
