It looks like a lot of fun, but I'll pass anyway. My collection is kind of holy.

What an era that was ... when features were physical, ergonomy was actually more important than bling, and you owned what you bought

Great video. This appears to be kind of a gem of a projector at least in terms of features. Have you had many issues with the take up reel? Do you have any tips on how to handle the beginning of the film as it comes in initial contact with the take up reel, to avoid damage to the roll?

You're obviously a newbe, huh? I almost lost it when you were talking about the counterweight. Scale? "I've not seen one like that," you said. Btw, that's a 3600L Audio Technica cartridge you're using & it requires 3.5 tracking force.

This this is a really cool. If I didn't already have two very good vintage Technics turntables, I might consider something like this.

As several have pointed out the extremely common counterweight style is used by first turning the back portion until the arm balances out parallel to the platter first. then, You hold the rear weight still while turning the numbered ring till the 0 lines up with the mark on the front of the rear weight portion, usually a small painted line or indent at the 12 o'clock position, after which you begin turning just the rear weight so that it moves towards the tonearm bearings until reaching the required tracking force on the numeric scale on the numbered ring as indicated by the line/indent on the weight. Speaking of required tracking force, please do not voicegoogle the manufacturer and ask the weight needed. Instead, find out the actual model number and then use that to find the required tracking force for your cartridge. In this case the correct model is Audio-Technica ATN-3600L and the force required is between 2.5-3.5 grams with most people finding 3.0-3.2 to be ideal. This cartridge is ok as a beginner cart but for the price of this turntable it is an obvious manufacturer choice to keep profits up. It is a basic but decent sounding spherical stylus however the heavier tracking force is not the best for your records and will not give the best sound this table can allow. Several aftermarket replacement stylus options are available in elliptical and even shibata shapes that snap onto the cartridge and will give far better sound with tracking force between 1.2-1.8 allowing a pretty instant upgrade that will make for a much better sound and better for your record collection Then, once you start playing records do not do what this guy does and grab the center of your tonearm from its sides. If you train yourself in this habit you will one day absent mindedly do this without using the hydraulic lifter and this is a fantastic way to scratch your records and/or break your stylus. The lifter arm extending sideways from the headshell at the end of the tonearm is the correct spot to grab and it is best to gently lift with one finger from underneath or use the hydraulic lifter near the tonearm bearings first. this is the best way to limit risk of damaging the very delicate stylus cantilever. Also, the cork mat is not to stop the records slipping though it does provide that bonus effect. It is for dampening motor/bearing vibrations and importantly it is to raise your record to the proper height and achieve the correct vertical tracking angle. Lastly, while this table looks "ok" spec wise but it is not a very good deal for the features and you are paying a massive premium for this clear acrylic plinth. The tonearm and tonearm bearings are very cheaply made and will be a weak point that many other turntables in the $400-$500 range won't suffer from. These particular lower quality parts will limit how high up in quality you can go in cartridge/stylus options and still see additional returns. This table should sell for around $200-$250 as it is shown in the video even with an acrylic plinth. All told if you want a great table out of the box with a $400 budget go elsewhere but if you are a casual listener with a love for the styling try and wait for a big sale and use the saving to upgrade that stylus asap.

It looks nice. Sounds a bit tinny, but bass and treble controls would take care of that.

Impressed by the wow and flutter. Couldn't hear anything with my ear. As for the spinning scale on the counterweight, you need to adjust the counterweight so the tonearm sits horizontally flat, pretty much floating in the air. You then rotate the scale so it's shows 0 at the top. Then you can rotate the counterweight to set the recommended tracking force.

No way I am more crazier than u when it comes to turntables I spend most of my u tube time watching turntable reviews .I have seen this turntable before but its on your show I will watch it anyway ,I use an acrylic platter on ,my poroject TT just use a record wieght to hold record on it stays in place also that dial is normal on all turntables with a counter weight some are a little loose than others but thats how they work,wow that's a really warped record and that guitar tuner method is genius that's great idea ,I remember those on cereal boxes wow !!!!this is a good unit and not that expensive audio technica also came out with same concept of acrylic TT it was an anniversary edition but way too much about 1100.00 give or take a few hundred JRo

To anyone owning or buying a turntable like this - NEVER EVER use household polish or spray polish that you'd use for cleaning most things. It will gradually eat into the plastic and make it cloudy. Don't use iso prop or anything similarly harsh or solvent like for the same reason. I've had a load of clear plastic things over the years and learned the hard way.

Yep!! A new (or one you only used on this table) soft cotton or microfiber cloth with warm mix of 50/50 distilled water and white vinegar is all that is needed. If you want a little anti-static protection Novus 1 Acrylic Cleaner and if you did scratch it lightly at some point use Novus 2. Isopropanol aka isopropyl/rubbing alcohol is amongst the worst thing you can do it will cause crazing which is microscopic cracks all over the surface which will cloud appearance and weaken the structure.

The scale on the counterweight has to be set to zero by balancing the tonearm so that it floats horizontally above the platter. Then it will indicate the tracking force in grams.
@cjc36363617 сағат бұрын
I was about to say that myself. I remember that - balancing the arm to 'float', then putting the free indicator dial to zero at the top/'noon' position, the rotating the entire weight to the proper grams.

He's into turntables but doesn't know how to use the counterweight? Interesting. Balance the tonearm, set the numbered wheel to zero, turn both till you get to the desired weight. Not hard and may have been mentioned in the unread instructions. I've know this back in the 80s when i setup our turntable.

Can we get an update video on the AKAGear DS10PRO Fingerprint DeadBolt Lock?
@Rob8Күн бұрын
For real? The guage on counterweights spin so you can zero the counterweight after you've balanced the tone arm. Then you dial in the suggested force by adjusting the weight and dial together to the correct number.

There was also a locking screw on the counterweight to lock it in place once it is correctly adjusted.

Bought a CP740 that was sold as new (and it looked like it was) that had the "no ink" error. Thank you for your video, I could fix it in no time and the gear must have become lose just over the years because I could find it "free floating" inside the enclosure. It was glued to the axis maybe and lost its grip. Btw., I have an even older CP400 and looked inside: instead of the plastic gear found in the CP720/CP740 it uses a solid metal gear. So maybe Canon cut the costs a little too much...

I got rid of my last turn table back in 1992 or 93. So, maybe I'm remembering this wrongly, but record warping really effected the constancy of the sound. The more worped the record the worse the sound. And the less I could stand vinyl. My last turntable had quartz timing. I seem to recall that a lazer reading element instead of a diamond stylis was the suposed solution to the worped record problem. But I was way beyond caring at that point.

Right, when by that time, CD audio was a thing which is better than human perception can detect. I don't understand why people romanticize vinyl so much. It is cool to be able to listen to audio without any electronics whatsoever, but buy a gramophone for that. If you're going to add amplification, might as well go CD.

Why do all these cheapo companies feel it necessary to include Bluetooth on a record player? Especially when most reproduce sound far inferior to that which comes from your cell phone, this is useless. Obviously the cheap motor needs replacing. I've repaired and restored lots of record players over the years and seen and tested many of these types of nostalgia ones and the like. It would be so easy for one of these companies to make a really good sounding record player, portable or otherwise. With a proper impedance match for the cartridge (most are terribly incorrect) Most have the weight for the cartridge incorrect. STOP including Bluetooth ! That's not what we purchase a record player for. ALWAYS include TONE and BASS controls. All recordings are made with differently. Play a record that was recorded today, one from the 80's , the 70's the 60's . THEY'RE ALL DIFFERENT and NEED to be adjusted to you're personal taste. This may never happen unfortunately so I'll be content with the ones I've built myself and hope maybe one day someone will provide newcomers to vinyl with a decent playback unit instead of this junk that's thrown together with a dollars worth of electronics in a pretty box.

Thx for sharing this. I got a VO5630, actually I got 2, one for PCM recordings, and one for spares. I have little success with the PCM recording. The heads seem to be used up. I connected the VCR in a way that I simultaneously can do analogue and digital recordings. That’s an awesome purpose. I will fix the rotating head issue and then nothing can go wrong anymore. The analogue recording is flawless. I‘m using Sony tapes. The U Matic served as a Master Recorder for CD production. Keep coming up with these clips. Much appreciated.
