Used to play this at uni in London age 18 in 1974 on my Yamaha FG180. So nice to return to it now I'm 68 - on the same guitar. One of the lovliest drop D's ever. Thank you Mr K.

Ed Sciaky of WMMR and later WIOQ in Philadelphia used to open his weekly radio show on Sunday nights with this. He helped introduce Springsteen, Billy Joel and most importantly Yes to the masses…what a wonderful song!

It is a 145 Blues progression and the tuning of open d. As mentioned above this particular version which is amazing is in open E probably to suit his vocal range. I think it's important to learn the important Blues Licks of a song but also make it your own. The show Reacher brought me here

1. I've had my own Half-Assed version all these years - now I'm gonna buckle-down & learn it corectly from the Master. 2. Thank you, Jorma for creating the world's first & best Psychedelic acoustic guitar instrumental ever.

I was a drummer in a rock band when I first heard _Embryonic Journey,_ It fired me up enough to glom onto an acoustic guitar and figure it out. I wasn't completely guitar-illiterate; I got the drop-D tuning, but I had zero finger picking technique. So I muddled through it with a flat pick well enough to not make me barf. It was actually half-decent, but the other half was assed. Time to do it right!

I’ve been a fan of Jorma’s for more decades that I’d like to admit (that means I’m a grey haired old dude). Seen him play up close and personal at some of the most amazing small venues, and even had his broken pick land on our table at The Iron Horse. He laughed later that he almost hit me in the eye.😂 Through all the years, I’ve been there for all the different stages of his career, but none as close to my heart as the acoustic sessions with Hot Tuna. We get older, our fingers don’t fly like they did in our youth, but there is nothing like enjoying a show with the great Masters. I hope to see him/them play again before I’m plant food.❤️😎
