Affordable housing is NOT the problem. If you can't properly identify the problem then you CAN'T solve the problem. Studies show 67% of the homeless are mentally ill. Institutionalize those that are mentally ill. Some may need to be in psychiatric hospitals for the rest of their lives. Some may need to stay in half-way houses and some may be able to live on their own or with family. That leaves 33% Drug and alcohol addiction represents about 1/3 or 33% of the homeless population. There is some crossover where a person can be mentally ill and use alcohol and/or drug to self medicate. Increase inpatient and outpatient recovery slots. Make it to where the homeless person has no choice but go to rehab or jail -- either way they will detox -- you know what they would choose. Some will relapse I am aware of this. When they do they need to repeat the process again. That leaves the rest which in my opinion is around 15% of the population which is manageable. I worked for 3 years in a shelter there will never be 100% of the people housed but we can do much better. Watching the mentally ill and drug addled sleeping on the street is morally reprehensible. We can do better. We must do better.

Affordable housing? That is a complete myth. You live where housing IS affordable. There are apartments in LA that are less than $1,000. I lived in Texas there was housing that was $3,500+ and there was housing for $1,200 I got a roommate and rent was $600/month I was paid $13.50 an hour at the time, during covid. Took the Metro or walked to work which was 2 miles. There are ways people just need to problem solve.

This is what a great deal of $ is spent on. I lived across from a park and week after week they had to bring the big trucks to clear it out. The mess is extreme and when they relocate they leave a lot behind. They live in 5th wheels with no truck attached. They have to get a buddy to move them everytime they get the 72 hr sticker but they just move a block over untll the day they can't a friend to pull them to another spot and they lose the 5th wheel. Its so hard. And we want to care about the homeless but no one really cares about the ppl actually living in the homes and paying the taxes. The homeless I encountered are not kind to us, they are not kind to each other yet they DEMAND that tax payers offer them resources and respect. I've seen all kinds of disrespect in that part. This woman interviewed had no respect for the ppl out there volunteering, none. She complained that they didn't come over to her and ask her what they could give her. No shame, feeling entitled to resources that she do not contribute to. She demands we keep up our end of the unofficial social contract of humans in a society yet she and others like her refuse to contribute to it. The change for these ppl comes from within, we cannot walk up to them and offer them a solution like this woman wishes would happen. There will never be enough $ because that's not the solution. Personal accountability is the way. Teach that. We know the toss $ at the problem way of thinking does not work. Time to get serious and time for the ppl with their hand out to do the personal work to help themselves and then the rest will follow

Sane, sober and honest people usually have friends or relatives to stay with if they lose their jobs and apartment. The left explains almost every social phenomena in class or economic terms and refuses to talk about other factors such as lifestyle or culture factors. Why so few Asian or Hispanic homeless people compared to blacks and whites? They're not all techies and entrepreneurs with thriving businesses.

The city and its citizens should expect people to not live like pigs. The city and its citizens should expect homeless people to sleep in shelters. Most homeless people are homeless because of bad choices: drug addiction, refusing to take meds for mental illness, non-commitment to marriage & family, not learning to control emotions leading to firings, and the main one, not taking advantage of free public education to begin adulthood on the right foot. My daughter chose drugs and dove into this lifestyle although she was raised in our middle-class home with love, limits, faith, and caring parents. We have paid for apartments time and again, bought new furniture time and again, filled her fridge, cabinets, & closets time and again, gotten her jobs, offered higher/tech/trade education, taken in her child, and taken her to rehab multiple times. And this doesn't count the help she's been offered from the church and government, yet she always returns to drugs and the streets. Her daughter is now being raised by a stepmother. Those homeless because of job loss or other such circumstances usually get on their feet after a short time--never to return to the streets.

Also I would love to volunteer to help be a mentor to someone who is in a shelter. Those shelter spots one “filled “ are temporary. People need advocates in this life- whether you are reaching toward being a self actualized adult housed and working, or if u are the “working poor” - we need advocates. Steps to do paperwork for each public assistance agency, keep doctor/therapy appts to address physical/mental conditions that make it difficult to get all their affairs in order, to make sure they know they are seen. Big Bro Big Sis for adults Because alll those on the street who are adults deserve to be free from human suffering (mental/physical) just like children do, they once were children, they e just been here longer. @@philipbanks2462 Some choose not to go to a shelter because 1) shelters won't let you in if you are visibly intoxicated or on drugs. 2) you have a high likelihood of having your things stolen 3) shelter goers have a lot of fights amongst each other. 4) Shelter have a time when you have to be inside and you can't leave until the morning. (the reason for this is they don't want you to claim a spot and leave because it denies someone a spot if you stay for 2 hours and someone else could have used it for 8 hours) 5) separation from spouse there are men's shelters and women's shelters mostly. There are only a few places for families to go. I. can only speak to the shelter I worked at most people don't know you can still receive services for the shelter. Particularly since he at least once has illegally carried he think she can just whip his peen compensation out and rule, but he better be careful about that -- it might not end well for him one day. False Narratives! We supported Criminal Justice Reform just NOT the Fake PROGRESSive Ideologue version that was completely dysfunctional and damaging to our society. Crime was the worst that it has ever been under these failed leaders. Talk about all the Rich billionaires on your side including the national Union's involved in spending Millions to support your ideologues. Yes there's a reason that these failed Leaders with failed policies were removed from office. As soon as people realize that their policies were causing severe damage and killing people businesses and communities they decided to take immediate action. Your denial does not change the facts on the ground. A majority of Democrats do not agree with your dysfunctional approach that is partisan extreme to the left. Recalls are part of the democratic process that is guaranteed in the California state constitution. A majority of DAs DISAGREED with Boudin, Price & Gascon - They all FAILED TO BRING RESULTS! DA is Top Cop that must prosecute to the full extent of the law NOT focus on undermining law enforcement. Public Safety is not debatable when it comes to the damage being done to the people of color disproportionately because of these failed policies. This topic impacts VICTIMS OF CRIME and is not to be laughed at. FYI: the Alameda County District Attorney is the top cop and is charged with the duties to prosecute criminals to the full extent of the law and includes protecting the rights of victims of crime. Price was removed from office for failing to do her job - PERIOD! FACT: Recall was NOT against Criminal Justice Reform - Just DA Price's dysfunctional version As a Lead Organizer (Pressers/Rallys) for both DA Price & Mayor Thao Recalls - I can tell you that this person is misrepresenting FACTS! Extremely biased and an Ideologue Progressive leftist partisan operative who admits that he worked as campaign manager to elect Pam Price and 3 months into her term in office. FACT: Price lost Recall by a 2-1 margin in the recall! Price's camp continue to double down and triple down in an attempt to reframe the narrative that is very Trump-like in election denying. Check your legal sources: A Recall cannot legally begin until after 6 months the elected has been in office. 123,800 Alameda county residents signed initial Recall petition. Alameda County Pamela Price Recall Election Official Results: Yes 374,993 62.91 % No 221,051 37.09 % UNACCEPTABLE: Disparaging Brenda Grisham, Carl Chan & reporter Emily Raguso with false allegations. Price was a George Soros funded DA, just like Boudin & Gascon - ALL GONE! (Google it) Ryan LaLonde can now be called as a witness by Emily to prove DA Price violated her Freedom of the Press - thanks for incriminating Price further beyond the FBI charges! Price stood with the Anti Police Terror Project against law enforcement Price's ex husband and children still have active restraining orders against her. Failed Policies from Failed Leaders has killed people, businesses & our communities - Public Safety is #1 PRIORITY! Price's "Social Experiment" "guinea pigged" the people of Alameda County and FAILED us TERRIBLY! Look for a ton of lawsuits to be filed against Pamela Price.
