Unfortunately when people think of Bristol Punk bands, people think of bands like Chaotic Dischord and Vice Squad, which was one side of Bristol Punk. But by far the best punk band from the South West was a Band called Red Alert. Due to their quite large following which often led to the venues they played in getting pretty damaged, Red Alert couldn't get any live gigs, which resulted in the band eventually going their own ways. The sad thing is that Red Alert never recorded any demos or records and they did have some really good songs such as Running Riot, V.A.T, Total Chaos. There are rumors that there were recordings made at one of the band's rehearsals, but this would have been done on a cheap cassette player and the quality would be awful, but it would better than nothing at all...... If it exists please download. PS. Much later another punk band ( who were appalling! ) used the name Red Alert. 1980. 2014. Red Alert are still the only decent Rock N Roll band to come out of Bristol & the South West. " The true darlings of the "Dug Out".

I don't know about the whole Bristol being about Bass thing. All the best venues in Bristol in my opinion are the ones that don't do electronic music. Its so cliche, its like all these rich kiddies come to Bristol and expect to hear DnB and Dubstep. You end up avoiding them. I'd rather go to the small venues where you can hear genuine original Bristol bands trying to make a crack at it then chat with them afterwards. Long as the they enjoy it but the Bristol heart to me is the little rock venues

@uwebristoljames This short docco was actually made years ago, it took me a few years to put it online. I can assure you I have not seen your "Bristol Sound". Perhaps you could send me a link, I'd like to see it. What you see here is the result of 2 weeks research and 2 days shooting, I'm sure your feature is a lot more in depth. Anyway, I hope this helps clear things up a bit & please do post your link. Cheers.
