The best version is CGA. I remember it from my childhood, so it's the best. The power of nostalgia is strong:)
@daishi55717 сағат бұрын
I never liked CGA I would prefer black and white or greyscale (preferably) as the colour scheme is all over the place. But this game is hardly a poster child for colour graphics for the Amiga anyway, although the game is good (I like me some Sokoban) Where I really dislike it is when those PC CGA adventure games came to the Amiga, and despite have far more colours available for display and a much better palette, with zero effort they just threw it on the Amiga.

@@daishi5571 I totally agree with you. Everyone on the Amiga loves Loom, but I can't get over the EGA graphics when I know how gorgeous the FMtowns version is. Same with Zak McKracken, but I don't mind it so much there because of the styling.

I take it you mean parallax.
@alpyre2 сағат бұрын
The visible circle looks like a parallaxing layer but in fact it is probably made with two single plane blitter objects (one for each playfield) both moving together with the player sprite and the palette must have all zeros for the colors set by those planes. A very smart Amiga trick.
@CommonSense-hy2sn11 минут бұрын
@@daishi5571 To have 3 "parallaxes"? The Amiga hardware reference manual refers them as playfields & backgrounds, should it matter.
@CommonSense-hy2sn11 минут бұрын
@@alpyre Good use of bitplanes, judging by how colorful the main playfield is I assumed that they used a sort of 4+2 bitplane setup, leaving none for such effects.

Front Mission Gunhazard sprites?
@impactsuit98714 күн бұрын
Hi...No, but, they look alike because it was my main inspiration, specially the enemy mecha with the giant shield... I liked the design so much that I decided to redo it... mine is actually a few pixels taler and more robust. The player mecha is completey original, in spite that, innitialy I started trying to make something like the player mecha in Cybernator. There are other enemies I still don't have in the game that "ressembles" the ones from Gunhazard, but were all redone I'm actually using RetroAnimator to make all the animations and it's not based on sprites, instead, you can animate each part of your character, head, arms, legs, torso, etc... Separately and save a lot of memory.

@@eduardobarbosa7460 I'm doing the entire thing myself for now, using the Scorpion Engine and I started learning it less than two months ago, on top of that, I'm not exactly a coder... I'd really like to make it more RPG like, but due to the restrictions I'll be really happy if I end up witha decent shooter Right now I'm strugling to make the Mech point the gun, strafe while firing and raise its shield... Actually, I still have no idea on how to check if a button was pressed or released in Scorpion, what I accomplish so far was a miracle.

Some coders will have to code a 6 or 7 tracks sound routine. Music is constantly butchered in the last games because of the two tracks for the sound effects. It seems there is no optimization either, neither in the music or in the way tracks are muted. No need for two tracks for the sound effects anyway.

@trydowave4 күн бұрын
@julienbraudel7109 Obviously not. You've just picked all the best examples. But there's so much more, especially arcade ports, that were not up to par. I wouldn't personally put zool on that list either. Im an Amiga fanboy, but i will always admit where its strengths and weaknesses lie, and when developers lazily ported over an ST game.
@julienbraudel71094 күн бұрын
There are so many more great Amiga platformers than those i have listed, and anyway, there is enough great platformers on Amiga to make your argument weak or irrelevant (and Zool is a platformer). You can't tell "the majoritiy" when you would have easily more than 100 games that are better than this one. Even your argument on the arcade conversion is weak : Toki, Liquid Kids, Rainbow Islands, Rod Land, Tiny Bobble, Snow Bros., Wonderboy in Monsterland.. I think you got carried away a bit.
