Great video! I’m trying to create a rule to transfer to my goal. However, when I toggle the goal in the rule, the selection box appears grayed out, and I can’t click on it. Do you know why this might be happening?

I'm not understanding the purpose of this. You shouldn't have to do this every month. Budget the leftover bank balance once in the beginning. After that, the only money coming into your account is your monthly income which you budgeted to zero.

Can you do a setup for retirees who draw their income from their IRAs ?

Great suggestion! Can you provide some context on how you’re doing it now? It’ll help me translate it into Monarch
@jaime16502 ай бұрын
Is there a way to budget by paycheck? I calculate my categories by year, then divide by 26 paychecks in a year, so all of my categories end up being fixed amounts (for the most part).
@pinnotpaper2 ай бұрын
Monarch doesn’t have a default way to budget by paycheck, so you’ll have to do some workarounds to get the setup you need. Here’s something you could try for your situation: Group: Paycheck 1 Categories: Rent 1, Groceries 1, etc. Group: Paycheck 2 Categories: Rent 2, Groceries 2, etc. This does mean you’d have to split expenses into multiple categories in order to see it show up on the budget under each paycheck, so just keep that in mind!

Hi Taylor! Thanks so much for this video. How do you categorize expenses that need to pull from these goals' balances? Monarch only lets me connect my associated savings account to the goal, so there's no way to assign, for example, an unexpected veterinary bill to utilize my pet sinking fund. Would you hide the actual transaction and categorize the transfer from savings to the goal?
@pinnotpaper2 ай бұрын
Hi Tracy. No need to hide anything. The savings withdrawal should still be marked under the “transfer” category in Monarch and connected to the pet sinking fund goal. This will show up under the GOALS section on your budget page. The expense should be marked under the “vet bills” category (example) in Monarch. This will show up under the EXPENSES section on your budget page. Both budget sections are important here as they show how much you withdrew from savings (GOALS) and where that money went after you withdrew it (EXPENSES). Hope this helps!

I like your channel. I have to ask.... Not everything gets a budget, specifically wants. Giving a budget to a WANT, especially after you spend the money makes it look like you did a great job.... but did you? We all spend money on those, like credit card repayments, but shouldn't they have a budget of $0? ALL free money should be going to savings or investments? So you will be OVER on WANTS and UNDER on SAVINGS when your spending is off? If you have to spend money every month on a WANT, then shouldn't it be a NEED? just asking! keep up the great videos!
@pinnotpaper4 ай бұрын
I completely understand where you’re coming from. At the time of this video, I overspent on my wants to “make up for” all the years I spent nothing on myself. But now I have a more healthy mindset and I am willing to reduce my wants (not completely eliminate or else I’ll get bored) in order to meet my now mandatory debt/savings goals so I can buy what I want guilt-free later!

This is just what works for me 😊 Good luck on your journey!
@613Cris4 ай бұрын
It's not even complicated? It's thorough. People who have concrete ideas on how to achieve their goals have a much better chance of success. Just because some cash budgeters come on twice a week to cash plan and stuff envelopes doesn't mean they don't have plans and notes you don't see. Those just aren't as "aesthetic" so it stays behind the scenes.

a couple things: what was your reasoning for buying a $1500 couch on a loan when you could've gotten one off FB marketplace for $100-$250? calculating all your housing costs, you're paying almost 50% of your take home pay on this, when financial advisors recommend not paying more than 30% (ideally 20-25%). this seems like a risky situation to put yourself in because you didnt like your roommate. why not find another?
@pinnotpaper4 ай бұрын
Great questions! 1. I didn’t want to risk getting secondhand furniture in this post-Covid climate (I also just wanted something brand new). 2. I’ve lived with other people plenty of times before this roommate and it just never worked out, so I decided to go solo for peace of mind. My rent itself is 30% of my gross income, so I’m comfortable with that. Worst-case scenario, I have almost $700 “free” each month (aka the monthly margin) that I can pull from at any time if my situation changes!

you shouldnt be saving while having debt
@pinnotpaper4 ай бұрын
I’m deciding to save because I’ve had back-to-back emergencies the past year, so I can’t afford not to build some kind of cushion while paying off debt. But I’m still putting more towards debt anyways so it’s still the priority 💪
@Jclin74 ай бұрын
Completely incorrect mindset. You should definitely be saving even if you have debt. You shouldn’t be investing. Keep pushing forward!
@briaelle4 ай бұрын
You’ll get yourself in a negative loop if you don’t save before you pay off debt. Emergencies aren’t going to stop just because you have a debt payoff plan. Preparing for those emergencies will allow you to focus on your debt payoff.
@pinnotpaper4 ай бұрын
@briaelle Yes! Say it for the people in the back 📢
@apocalypticice91894 ай бұрын
You should have some savings while paying off debt, but could probably set a interim limit of about 1-3 months of saving, then go full force on paying off debt, before saving the rest of the full 1 year emergency fund.

I've added my husband, and he has linked his credit card. Is there a way to see how much either of us is spending in each category separately?
@pinnotpaper5 ай бұрын
Hi Angela! Option A: If both of you spend through your own accounts, go to Reports > Filters > Accounts, and select the bank account you want to review the spending for. Then click “Apply” and view the “Spending” tab to see the category breakdown. Option B: If both of you spend through a joint account, the best way to see spending by person is by using Tags. You can create them by going to Settings > Tags > New tag. After you’ve created a tag each for you and your husband, you can tag each transaction by person when you check-in with Monarch. Then go to Reports > Filters > Tags and select the tag (aka person). Then click “Apply” and view the “Spending” tab to see the category breakdown.

I love this advice on night owl routine being put into a more realistic light instead of just being told not to be so lazy, getting called out for it, etc. Im a natural-born night owl myself & tend to be more productive and happy around 1-5am and love my 7-8am morning naps a lot. I've been trying to set a goal for my schedule fix so i can have enough time to watch a movie at 3:30am, take care of my kid, read/study, etc. So that way i can have a better routine and all too to train myself to have better focus. Im more of rather a grouch when i wake up. Thank you!
