They do make hardshells that open from the top. I saw one while comparing suitcases. I didn't buy it and don't remember the brand, though😔. I didn't get it because I feel like the bisected opening style lends to more organsied packing (i.e. items aren't buried as deeply😅).

It's the High Rain Forest in the Olympic National Park of Washington State. I live near it and have hiked and camped in it all the way to the base of Mount Olympus.

A zipper on a ground tent keeps out all small creepy crawlies and any small animals. And being high up in a roof top tent does nothing to stop an aggressive animal like a bear if it wants to make a meal of you. The sense of safety is an illusion, if a strong selling point. And there are so many other cons I would never buy one.

@@Izzythrills Peace of mind at night is worth a lot too. I find it funny that my Canadian friends and family think it is dangerous to sleep out in the Arizona desert in a tent. A zipper and screening on any tent stops all desert creepy crawlies for getting anywhere near you at night. Yet to them it is scarier sleeping in a tent in the desert than sleeping in a tent in bear country. :)

Wow i just did charlotte nc to sudbury ontario and back. 2600 miles, $2000/diesel. Towing a large camping trailer. Canadian diesel is twice the price of diesel in NC.
