Wow! I hardley recognize the place. There was no electricity on the Island the last time I was there. When did all the buildings go up? I believe I’d miss the smell of the kerosine lamps, and the hum of generators at night. Part of the charm of Monhegan was that you could leave the development in the city and enjoy the quit and see the stars without light pollution.

you still can... been visiting since 1974 and while a few things change, it's basically the same. In '74, I stayed at the Trailing Yew and my room had electricity.

Loved going to the library during summer stays on Monhegan. My mom who was a librarian, also loved it, so when my Dad (Joseph Rains) died in 1979, the obituary requested donations to the Library.

A wonderful venue hosted by Jacq and Charles, who are also amazing photographers. One-stop, awesome weddings and I even get the privilege of officiating here. Highly recommend to all couples.
