Another great episode and insight into our Railway past. I can't wait for the next episode, having witnessed the demise of our railway network in the 1960's. My elder brother was a Fireman on Britannia Class locomotives out of Liverpool Street. My Saturdays were spent train spotting on Liverpool St. and Kings Cross stations. Never without the obligatory Ian Allan Engine Listing Book! Our local line between Gt. Yarmouth and Lowestoft is another example of our lost heritage. So many lines lost throughout Britain and so sadly missed.

Great presentation, very interesting and detailed. Just one criticism is the old film footage of the line shouldn't have been cropped into the widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, resulting in the picture having part of the top and bottom missing.

Fascinating stuff once again; love the effects which really bring out where the tracks fit onto the current landscape. Was good to see footage of a Hastings buffet unit on a railtour. This was probably one of two "Sunny South Express" tours organised by the Lea Valley Railway Club in 1976 (1 May or 31 July) with unit 1034 which visited a series of Sussex and Kent freight lines including Beeding

Where you were at St Botolph's by the Downslink intersection were two railway cottages, long demolished. My mum lived with her parents at one of the cottages during WW2, her dad being a platelayer. Mum used to walk up the line to go shopping at Bramber. During WW2 grandad built an air raid shelter out of sleepers in the garden there.

A magnificent video so refreshing to see someone taking the time to fully investigate the abundant history of the railway bringing to life the day to day running of the line, its trains, stations, people and services provided at that time. One wonders what the Steyning Line would be like today had they not closed it especially now with traffic jams on Britain’s roads. Thank you so much for a truly amazing series and looking forward to seeing part 3 (already viewed parts 1 & 2).

I used to be a member of the now long gone Brighton railway museum, and before we had the pullman shed at Preston park the old line to the cement works was looked at ,we also saved the 2 Ruston diesel loco shunters at the cement works at the cement works named Shoreham and Steyning after the line.

I was born in Shoreham by sea and as a child spent a couple of years in a wheelchair. If my brother ,Brian, was pushing me ,he used to wait until the signal box man was turning the wheel and starting to close the gates before pushing me through! the ever narrowing gates. I would be screaming and the man in the box shouting at my brother through the window who was laughing! Happy days! when I was 11, I had to got o high school in Worthing and used that under pass everyday

As I was born in Shoreham and lived there until the 70s I remember the railway from Shoreham to Steyning and onwards with affection. However in your fantastic programme you called it the Steyning Flyer. As a child it was always known as the Steyning Stinker, mainly because it was never the cleanest of engines and seemed to emit enormous amounts if black sooty deposits which covered your clothes if you got too close. The romanticism of steam railways was not always as lovely as some enthusiasts dream. Great programmes, keep doing them.
