And it's amazing how fast the rivers change on F249. Was there 2 days ago and 4 crossings were completely different.

Is this road considered as F road? Can you drive on rental vehicle?

No, it's a normal gravel road. You can drive it with a rental.

We were there same day and saw the SUV converted submarine. Apparently the repair guy got it running there after drying out the air filter and a lot of other things. Bit of a miracle to me.

No, the GoPro battery was dead.. Plan was to drive to the south over F752 and F26 as the northern part of F26 was closed. But we decided due to the uncertain weather to go North via F752 and finally go south on 35. Was a good decision because at the end of the day the complete F26 was closed.

@@RoadTripOnkyMonkWas it modified or a Standard one? I'm thinking about what i need to do to my new Single Cab Ranger with camper shell to drive most of the roads there. I guess Skid plates and good AT Tires should do the job. Do you think i need bigger tires or are standard sized ones ok
@RoadTripOnkyMonk
@RoadTripOnkyMonk 16 күн бұрын
@jdexplores01 That's the configuration I have: skit plates and 31' AT's plus Old Man Emu suspension. As the Isuzu has 800mm fording depth I didn't mount a snorkel. Maybe for next year. Now I could ford depths ca 4 cm above my tires. Drove a few 4×4 but never a Ranger, so I can't tell you about its best tire size. Do you need a stronger suspension with the cabin on it?
@jdexplores01

@@RoadTripOnkyMonk your dmax sounds reasonable for a tourer. The Ranger also has a wading depth of 80cm and i'm not trying to do rivers that deep. I built the shell myself this summer. It's made from isolated PVC Sandwich Plates and Aluminium Prifiles. It's only about 70-80kg which is super light for the size of a Single Cab, so i stick with the suspension also because the truck is brand new. I'm only thinking a lot about tire size, because here in Germany It's very complicated to modify something like that. So do you have 265/70 R17 and no problems on any track?

How many cm deep would you estimate for Blafjalakvisl here? When I drove F261 in 2022 the water level was high enough to completely cover the island in the middle, except for the large rock.
@RoadTripOnkyMonk
@RoadTripOnkyMonk 26 күн бұрын
On that day I think about 40cm and the dip in the middle about 60cm. In 2 years the riverbed has changed a few times. I guess it is a little bit more carved in.

Nice Video! It's great to see recent footage from the highland roads, to be able to plan accordingly! Did you reference the Duster because you were driving one or because it is a popular vehicle?
@RoadTripOnkyMonk
@RoadTripOnkyMonk 27 күн бұрын
Hey, thx for your positive comment! I did the reference because it's a popular 4×4 vehicle, with which you can drive few F-roads, but it has it's limits there.

Hello, I think it's possible. Last time I was there about 2 weeks ago, the road conditions were pretty poor the last 2km though. (See here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZicZKVnfK-Nb8Usi=GVpbOsa2FZ4AnV2g) Drive slow and carefully and you will make it. Have fun!

Update: Was there a couple of days ago. The road was better. Keep in mind, when you want to park/ camp there before 3pm you need a reservation. Check the weather and wind before, maybe lower your tire pressure and have a safe journey!

Nice video and interesting document. With real time footage, we can appreciate the landscape and the quality of the road. I was in this region at the end of May 2022 but the road was still "lokad" because of the snow. East of Iceland is really beautiful. I admire your flag. Is it a diplomatic vehicle?
