your stat calculation is way off... 14 out of 100k. The correct calculation would be to determine of that 100k installs, how many attempted thefts had been made, lets say 1000, and then if there was 14 successful thefts - that would be the correct way to establish reliability.

It’s an ilx-702 but it’s a complete kit which Alpine do for the E46.

It would be nice if they head an aftermarket head unit that could directly connect to your idrive and screen if you have those options instead of how you guys done it here. The oem screen looks out of place now.

It’s quite a complex job with modifying brackets etc so unfortunately not. We can arrange transportation from anywhere in UK if that helps.

This is a complete Alpine solution for the E46. However you can buy steering wheel controls for most cars/stereos online.

@@richard21995 no frame required for installing the window as they simply bond on. However if you watch the completed van video you will see we have created frames inside for aesthetics on some of the windows.

All he wanted was for it to be loud. All I would want is for it to sound much better than stock at low and higher volume levels at an audiophile level. It reminds me of a time many years ago when I invited a friend around to listen to my fairly high end home audio system. He said it sounded 'clear', but he preferred his JVC stacker system with huge subwoofers as it was 'louder'. I listened to this same system and it was a mush of overblown distorted bass and horrendous mid range and ear piercing highs. Non existant sound stage too. Don't even ask about speaker positioning!

Hi Raf, great video and well explained. However, I am pondering upgrading my Avtex 994 system for the latest 104X. You said twice that the roof mounted aerial was the same in each system. One of the things bothering me was having to prise off the old 994 aerial before fitting the newer one, but are you saying that I do not have to do that ? Can I use the 994 aerial on a 104X installation and still have all the benefits of the 104X. Thanks in anticipation. Steve.

@@seastones07 Hi Steve. I have just upgraded my own older 985 to the 105X system and used the existing aerial and it works perfect. The difference is the newer aerials have a quad aerial but some of the older systems only had a twin aerial (mine included). However it will work fine with the twin aerial. Quad will give you a cleaner signal but I didn’t want to remove the aerial like you.

I have just spoken to Craig at Avtex support and basically he told me not to bother upgrading the 994X to an 105X system because I would be unlikely to notice any improvement. He suggested to leave my 994X in my current van and if I should ever change my van then that would be the time to install a 104X system. The benefit of a 104X over the 994X system is probably just the nice digital display on the router of the 104X. Oh well that’s saved me a few quid !!

@@seastones07 Hi Steve I have no idea why you’ve been told this other than Craig’s not really technical. The 104X is a Cat 6 router which will typically give you twice the speed of a Cat 4 router. If your generally getting signal where you are and just streaming etc with email etc then the 994X will be fine. I had in my own van the older 985 since January up until I plugged in the 105X 2 weeks ago and got Netflix on almost all sites I visited (around 7 since Jan). If you want better speeds then the 104X is a noticeable improvement on the 994.

Great video. Got to be honest, if anyone does their homework, they soon discover these kits are just an amalgamation of components widely available at a fair bit less than these popular rebranded packages. That isn't a criticism of such kits as there is absolutely nothing wrong with them, and many folk just want to walk into a store and buy the full setup in one kit. Mobile WiFi is a broad subject and one person's ideal setup might not suit someone else. Then there is where you will be using it, what network/s are you on, where do you travel too and then the weakest link (in the UK more than mainland Europe), which is pretty lousy and often unstable network coverage by the main four. Personally I think the only surefire way to almost guarantee good connection and good speeds almost anywhere is by using starlink, especially if internet access is critical. The hardware is no more expensive than a decent high end traditional set up, and if you use duel sims to increase connectivity success in a traditional set up, then starlink's somewhat pricey unlimited access subscription fee (which can be paused if your not using it), starts to make sense. You can even get the starlink mini at £50pm subscription (again you can pause it anytime),albeit it's not unlimited, but enough for all but the heaviest of users.

If you truly want real protection nothing touches Pandora …ghost protects against low level thieves if you need professional protection there is only Pandora…I had ghost and took them 90 seconds to break in ….they saw the Pandora led in window and walked off, as totally unable to scan and even if they took keys and fob I can stop vehicle remotely anywhere in the world

Rubbish, I had my Range Rover stolen and i had a Ghost fitted. The thief opened the bonnet then went under the fuse box and activated the factory start, only posting this so other people know it to can be overcome, in saying that it took them half an hour, so im not saying not to get the Ghost but you should also add another layer of protection i myself had another one put in but also had a tracking system installed

This is why choosing a good experienced installer is key. We get cars in with poorly fitted ghosts which we can have off in less than 5 mins so if your system withstood a 30 mins attack I’d say that’s pretty good. Most thief’s wouldn’t stand around for 30 minutes.
