Rob Vasiluth on Long Island collects eelgrass seeds, glues them with a special glue to clams, and he created a machine that drops the clams (who bury themselves in the ground, thus burying the eelgrass seeds) - his machine drops 10,000 clams in 20 minutes. Search Save the Sound videos on youtube.

This ban on harvest during most of the spawning season puts Massachusetts in alignment with other states in implementing sustainable horseshoe crab harvesting protocols. For example, Virginia prohibits bait harvest within 1,000 feet of shore from May 1 - June 7, which protects horseshoe crabs as they stage nearshore prior to moving to spawning beaches. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service banned horseshoe crab harvesting in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina during spawning season from March 15 to July 15. This should also reduce the knock on negative effect on the many migratory bird species, most notably the Red Knot, who depend (and base their seasonal migration) on horseshoe crab eggs as an important food source. Red Knots have declined by 94% over the past 40 years in part due to the decline in horseshoe crabs.

It all lies. I will be getting to the bottom of the crooked bs that has been proposed and endorsed by people like you. We will be fishing next spring.

Great project, kudos to the MA DMF team. We need to expand it coastwide, hopefully other states will embrace the study.

I just watched a video from the UK. They empty the pot on to a table with multiple slots across the top. If the shell falls through, it's too small. If it stays on top, it goes down a chute and in the bag. I can't see how they could have brought the pots up in sequence and taken the time to measure individually. But then again, this is the People's Republic of Massachusetts.

Where can someone find out where you can go fishing for lobster to "dive" catch them? I have a teenager that thinks it will be "easy" she is 16 and we live near Kingston and Plymouth Bay. Can she just swim out and catch them by hand if I buy her this permit?

The cotley river is currently damned by a fallen log and debris just downstream of heart street. it is stopping herring and any other andronamous species from migrating.
