Everything's good here. Just bought an edge jointer up near Doug in Seymour, IN. Watching me get it out of the truck when I got home would have been comical. That thing is solid cast iron and HEAVY. It wound up upside down on the ground and I wound up on my butt behind it. Fortunately the dolly in the garage managed to wheel it in after I got it back right side up. Hope you're doing well too, Ron :)

Hey Gary. Good to see you making a video once again. And to think, I've actually been in that garage. LOL Looks like the ol Ranger is still going strong, but your mom's trailblazer has been replaced. Nothing lasts forever I guess. Still have not made it to Cincy to get any scenic view video, maybe one of these days. Been pretty busy also. :)

Yeah, I went to check her oil in the Trailblazer one day earlier this year and it was milky looking. It could have just been around the cap as it wasn't on good and might have let some condensation in there (She let the local walmart change her oil last time and the cap was on crooked), but I think she was more looking for a reason to get her a newer vehicle and that was good enough, lol. So, she has that Fusion now. It has a smaller engine than the Ranger but puts out more hp...go figure, lol.

I just got back from your neck of the woods. I bought an edge jointer on facebook marketplace up near there at a place called Swifty Farms. I'd have stopped but I wanted to get back home before it got too hot out. I was cool enough coming home, but by the time I got that beast unloaded and into the garage, I was soaked, lol.

I know...And the thing was made in 1965 so it's had a few years for those wheels to wear down, lol. I saw a bigger one in Northern, KY for $100 with rubber tires. They said it wouldn't start, but I figure I could put a harbor freight predator engine on it for $149 and have one tank of a snowblower, lol. The one I have now has more steel in it than 3 new ones.

I know this is over 6 years old. Can you tell me how you deal with the brake spring on the left. I have this model myself and when I wanted to install the blade brake, one of the springs that holds the brake arm, one particular spring was impossible. In fact, after two days of messing with it, I had to pack it up for shop to help me. Do you have any idea to share?
@Rebel9668
@Rebel9668 6 ай бұрын
Not really as I've never run across that particular problem. In point of fact, I'm not even sure if my blade brakes even work anymore as when I disengage the pto I can hear the spindles spinning freely, but they stop on their own after a minute or two. They can't really hurt anything since the mower deck covers them. If your afraid of the mower moving as you go to step off of it I guess you could always just hit your brake pedal first and put on your parking brake (The little red handle on the lower left side of the "dash"). I often use the parking brake for when I want to get off the mower for a moment, but don't want to shut the engine off. I still have this mower and still use it every week. It's on its 14th year now and has 419 hours on it. I did have to put a new carburetor on it a couple weeks ago though...and reset the valve lash.

I have one of these I pulled down out of the attic. It turns on, the volume works, the station needle doesn't move, I imagine it is a belt or string on the pully, seems to change stations somewhat but not really consistent, like it is slipping. After watching your video, I think I might just open it and see what repairs I can make, it really is a cool old piece.

@Rebel9668
@Rebel9668 8 ай бұрын
Unless the lever is stuck from hardened grease under the plinth, I'm not sure. If it is just hardened grease under there, you can dissolve it with about any solvent. I like using lacquer thinner myself. Once it's dissolved you can then re-lubricate it with fresh grease like white lithium or sewing machine grease and it should then work smoothly. The plinth (The part the platter sits on) should just lift out of the case so you can turn it over to see what state the lubrication is in. Hope that helps.

Doing much better now, Ron. Spent a week in hospital about a month ago. Kidneys were trying to fail, but they're back up and working again. Thought I was going to have to start dialysis for a while there. At least now I know I can't take Aleve. It made my potassium shoot sky high and made my blood sugar at one point drop to 19. They were injecting dextrose in through my IV and injecting it straight into my mouth and had me swallowing it as fast as I could to get my sugar up.

Nope, although I still have all the parts collected together. Life, and health got in the way as they often do. There was one whole year I couldn't even get out to the garage because the wiring of the garage was off as there was a corroded ground wire under the house that I couldn't reach and I had to find an electrician small enough and wiry enough (no pun intended) to get under there to fix it. Then I had several bouts of everything from abcesses on my rear the size of a flat iron to near constant back door trots stemming from the diabetes medication I was taking that kept me bed ridden for close to 6 months. Last fall the Doc found 3 holes in the retina of my right eye and I had to have surgery on it and then a gas bubble injected in it and had to lay face down for 30 days for it to heal properly. In the meantime other stuff that needs getting done has piled up and piled up and as radios are just a hobby, it isn't important enough to me to take precedence over all the other stuff needing done. Heck, I still have Christmas gifts in the garage from the past 2 Christmases that I haven't even taken out of their boxes yet, including a bench sander, a wood lathe and a large wilton bench vice. I'll get back to it eventually though, it just really isn't a priority. In the midst of all that we had a big storm come through and I had to buy a chainsaw and cut up three rather large trees to get them out of the yard which needs mowing whether one is ill or not. I should make a video of all of that, lol.

There's a website called VoiceOfMusic.com and the guy that runs it sells new idler wheels or can conversely rebuild your original one to factory specs. You can also email him questions and I bet if anyone would know it would be him. Hope you can find the answer you're looking for.

Hmmm, I could hear me just fine. No birds, although I do hear the elusive garage cricket chirping, LOL! The old radio playing in the background is a 1962 Magnavox OFM 47 running on vacuum tubes. It really sounds too good to be out in that garage, but I'd need to strip and refinish it before bringing it indoors because it looks terrible. Thing is, there's really no place in the house to put it when I do refinish it as there are probably a dozen old radios in the house already dating from the 1930's to the '50's.

I think NICTD parent owner of the SOUTH SHORE LINE purchased 9 miles of this railroad for their extension to Munster and Dyer INDIANA.
@Rebel9668
@Rebel9668 2 жыл бұрын
Entirely possible, but that would be part of the original Monon. CSX only owned their part of it from New Albany, IN up to Orleans or Bedford (I'm really not sure) and I'm pretty sure the tracks from Bedford on up to someplace else have been pulled up.
@albertcarello619
@albertcarello619 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rebel9668 NICTD purchased just approximately 9 miles of this right of way from Hammond IN. down to Munster and Dyer IN. It's the very first major branch extension of the South Shore Line in many decades. That extension to the South Bend Regional Airport was simply an extension of an existing freight spur that use to dead end at a cement factory. That was on November 20 1992 on a Saturday. The elimination of street running in Michigan City IN will be a great benefit in that more trains can now be scheduled when the tracks are relocated off 10th and 11th Streets. That should be done by 2024. Faster train scheduleing to Chicago will be a really great convenience.
@Rebel9668
@Rebel9668 2 жыл бұрын
@@albertcarello619 What I'm saying is that Hammond and Munster aren't even part of this line. They may at one time have been part of the original Monon and were once part of what this line used to be but CSX only used it as far North as Orleans or Bedford and the tracks above Bedford are gone for I don't know how far. In fact I don't know much about Indiana period once I'm north of Bedford which happens very rarely. I've never been to Michigan City or Chicago or any of those other places you've mentioned and have no idea where they are in relation to each other. Sorry. I'm originally from Tennessee and grew up there and in Kentucky and we didn't move to Washington County until I was a teen so I never learned the State's geography. I do know that this line was originally chartered in 1847 as the New Albany & Salem RR, long before the Monon was even thought of. The only other 2 RR's in Indiana I'm even familiar with (excluding scenic RR's) are the L&I (former PRR) and the Madison RR.
