Hi is the Septone Clear coat good enough? your result seems great in the video
@BenFlipsCars2 күн бұрын
Thanks mate, yes it came out very well after the wet sand and polish. It depends, if you have a newer car that you really care about, I'd go for the 2k clear coat. However for this car with over 200,000km, the septone did a great job as you can see. Really depends on how much you care about the car and how much you wanna spend

You could have just used 2k clear on top of the base coat. It would have eliminated the need for buffing as it would match a factory finish. The nozzles on these 2k clears are far superior to acrylic versions. It would have looked even better as well.
@BenFlipsCars5 күн бұрын
Yes indeed, 2k will yield a better result. However for me its not sold at my local auto stores, plus I was doing this job on a car with over 200,000km so it didn't need all the top notch materials. In the end, I was very happy with the outcome! Usually thought a little buffing can improve the look of even the 2k can outcomes and reduce any minor orange peel.

I bet the diff rear mount bushes need replacing in that Territory. To do that you have to pull whole diff out. Common problem with those, and electric windows and sagging hood lining. Shit paint and clear. Overall not bad car those old Tezzas.

Thankfully the bushes had already been replaced with the steel ones! I did the bushes on a falcon and have a video on doing it, big job, very tough to get the new bushes in, but doable. @BenFlipsCars25 күн бұрын
Thank you mate I appreciate it! Yes, I'd say 3 would probably be enough. You can always start with 2, and run to the shop for another one if it turns out to not be enough. Only thing that'll be slightly challenging with the roof is keeping the can vertical enough that the paint comes out evenly. I'm sure with some patience it'll turn out fine! Thanks mate, no worries. A good way to get the job done and learn at the same steps to do instead of using a spray gun a spray Can as a result which is good

Looks good, well done. Question though. Which green is the true green? The section you painted seems brighter, more vibrant green. The Green on the bottom-half of the boot seems darker, and the green on the rear-quarter panel seems to be in-between those two coloured green.
@BenFlipsCarsАй бұрын
Thanks mate! Yes the section I painted wasnt a perfect match, it did come out a little brighter but the angle of the panel toward the sun makes it seem even brighter again. As for the other 2 panels, they should be the exact same green. I think over time one may have faded a little more than the other (2004 model with 230,000km) and also the different ways the light it hitting them makes them look slightly different.
@Coryw133Ай бұрын
I have painted a lot of panels with 2k and 1k clear coat cans. After about 6 months of direct sunlight it starts to crack, really bad. Small stuff like side skirts I've never had crack, but top surfaces like roof, bonnet, spoiler - they all go to complete shit You need to buy clear coat with the pull tab for hardener under the can. It's more expensive but long lasting I guess for flipping the car you won't hear from the buyer again, but just know
@BenFlipsCarsАй бұрын
I had a car I did this fix on and over a year later I hadn't found there to be a single issue with the job, even though the car was kept outdoors. 2k is definitely better and will last longer, so if you're doing it on a more valuable car that you car more about, defs go the 2k.
@lukeforks9134Ай бұрын
The clear is separating from the base - this is a temporary fix, eventually all the clear will delaminate.
@BenFlipsCarsАй бұрын
If you treat the remaining clear with polish & wax it should help protect it and last much longer. Otherwise sand off all the old clear coat (as I more or less did here) and do all new clear. Then it'll last ages 👍

Ben next time go to local auto specialist paint shop that will colour match the actual panel your painting before mixing up the colour into the can. Also ask for the base colour mix that will handle clear coating in the 2k cans they sell off the shelf. 2k clear will always give a pro finish over 1k rattle cans and save you spending many hrs cutting & polishing 1k to get a simialr result (not much difference in rattle can price). Next stage for you if you flipping cars is to get yourself a small compressor & hose & moisture filter then a spray gun from Ali Express (Aeropro A610 with 1.2 & 1.3 tips for $80) and from BCF buy a cheap portable Gazebo with zip on sides included as temp booth. Buying auto paint in liquid format (not rattle can) is far cheaper than getting rattle cans mixed up if your doing this regularly (surprising how little actual base colour content actually goes into a rattle can with the bulk being the pressurised gas). The paint shop will sell small portions of base colour for small jobs. Follow & watch "Paint Society" on YT for all your DIY home garage painting tips where he has heaps of vids for painting at home on the cheap
@BenFlipsCarsАй бұрын
I really appreciate this comment brother! I have considered getting the paint scanned but its a much longer drive for me to go to a specialist paint shop. For more expensive cars down the line I'll consider doing it. Same deal with the 2k cans, although I may look at getting some online... If I ever need to paint an entire or large portion of a car, the compressor & paint tent I'll look further into as it becomes significantly more price efficient at that point. Thanks for all the tips again mate, I'll take a look at Paint Society 👍
