The most important traditional thing is missing in this video . Saunavasta, a kind of whip made of birch branches with leaves. We stimulate our blood circulating by beating ourselves with it in löyly.

Well, actually I disagree. Traditional, yes, bt probably something like 95-99% of "sauna-goings" happen without it. So it is quite rare and totally optional. And btw, it is called "vihta"..

@SailInFinland17 күн бұрын
Well, half the year we don't have ice 🙂.. But as for how many rounds etc, the main point with the Finnish sauna is that there are no rules. Whatever makes you fell good. Personally, I don't like ice baths but if I have time then would typically do a couple of löyly sessions and cooling of in-between by going outside and perhaps enjoying a beer.

OM 10-bit Log400 media (onboard/internal) shows a colorspace of Rec.2020 ('bt2020') with yuv420p10le subsampling, as shown by the utility: ffprobe. Why do you not select Rec.2020 as your media input colorspace?
@SailInFinland18 күн бұрын
Is that the OM-1? For the older E-M1 the off-camera is shown as Rec-709. Later models might behave differently. If the media is tagged 2020 then absolutely use that.

Are you referring to the temperature in Celsius ?
@SailInFinland26 күн бұрын
Yes, Finland is a "Celcius" country. When Anders Celcius invented the Celcius scale, Finland was still part of Sweden so one might argue that the Celcius scale is very much "our scale".

Hello, have you happened to try plugging something into the usb c port and the usb a port simultaneously? A possible use case is to power a small monitor and a wireless focus motor with just the VB50. It doesn’t seem to work with me- what happens is they both power for a second, then shut off.
@SailInFinland4 ай бұрын
Yes, and at least on my battery it does not work, I can only use one for powering. But you can use the USB-A interface for powering and the the USB-C for charging. There are now newer models so this might have been improved?

Wonderful informative video. Can you tell me more about that specific stove you have with the water jacket and spigot? Thanks!
@SailInFinland5 ай бұрын
Hi, is there something specific that you would like to know? This is a fairly common setup for sauna stoves to be used in places without warm water on tap. There are a couple of basic designs for this. One is the water tank setup in the video: it's not really a "jacket" (in that it does not surround the stove) but a tank of about 20 liters (5 gallons if you are in the US) on the side of the stove. Many stoves can be bought in one of 3 configs, a narrow model without the water tank and the wider models with the tank either to the left of right of the stove proper. In the video, there is cold water on tap in the sauna, so you fill the tank with cold water and then the water heats up as you heat up the sauna. The other typical design is that there is more like a jacket type tank that is put around the (metal) smoke stack, typically of the same size. Both work with the same principle, the water is being heated by the (excess) heat from the fire. So while the stove-attached tank is something you get when you choose your stove, the tank going around the smoke stack can be installed also later. The water gets quite hot and you get about 6 vats of "wash-warm" water from one tank, enough for about 3 people to wash. If you have more people, then you need to top the tank up as you go. There is an other, "heavy duty" setup for hot water that you can find in some saunas. This is a separate iron cauldron or pot of - say -100-200 liters that has its own fireplace. You then heat the water separately. Typically this is used in environments where there is a separate room for washing (so a 3 room setup - change, wash and "löyly") and you expect there will be more people using the sauna. One other benefit of this setup is that the pot keep the water warm so you have warm water for a morning wash or doing the dishes. In the small tanks, the water gets cold over-night.

What’s your thoughts on wood fired stoves vs electric?
@SailInFinland6 ай бұрын
@@NPow94 This is an eternal debate here in Finland 🤔. So let's define our goal, to me the goal is a nice sauna experience. The stove is just a (smallish?) part of the overall experience. Sauna design, location, facilities etc are all important as well. So it's possible to have a bad sauna (experience) with a wood-heated stove and a great experience with an electric. Both have their use. But if there is a well-designed sauna, by the water, with a nice view and nature all around, then I would definitely want a wood-heated stovev in *that* sauna. But for the sauna where I play badminton, I would definitely want to have an electric stove for reliable, instant löyly. So both have great uses and can offer a great sauna experience in the right setting. But for ultimate experience, nothing beats the wooden sauna when everything else around are contributing as well.

@NPow946 ай бұрын
@@SailInFinland I am currently looking to move my family to a new home and a pool is a top priority! The backyard will be a place we spend the majority of our time when the weather is and I have pictured a small cabin style sauna to be built close by. I think it would be best to have a wood stove for the home sauna. I wonder if it is common in Finland for some to have both an outdoor and an indoor sauna at their homes?
@SailInFinland6 ай бұрын
@@NPow94 sounds great. 2 saunas are not unheard off, the indoor would typically be electric and mainly used in the winter (so you don't have to shovel show before heating it ☃️) and the outdoor would be for summer use.

Interesting! In the early seventies I sailed with one of the brothers Kahm, the then owners of Andromeda from Stockholm to Öland and back. Incredible yourney and sometimes a handful as we at times were only two on board and with no engine at that time. Sailing in and out of harbour at Byxelkrok, for instance, was interesting...Great sailing, no one could keep up with us.. One night we glided in to a natural harbour on the east coast, south of Arkösund, where we found the boat " Gullmar VI " anchored in the bay. On board was, of course its owner, Arvid Laurin, the designer of Andromeda, at the time named " Mirage" and painted red. We invited Laurin on board and he entertained us with lots of stories from his days as designer and sailor. He checked the boat over and seemed reasonably satisfied with the condition . Gave us a few tips as to trimming the rigging a little, a little astouded, that the original rig was still ok. S 23 won the 8-metre championships later that summer, att Visby

Larger microphones have more surface area, which means more impact of the wind gusts. So in general smaller mics have an advantage at extremely windy conditions. I also have Deity D4 and tested it at 10 m/s wind. Results are unsatisfactory. That's probably over deadcat's capability.
@SailInFinland Жыл бұрын
I'm thinking that the problem is (at least partly) due to the foam, seems like the foam is stopping the deadcat to fully "seal" the mic from the behind? Also, as the general wind noise (from mainly trees around/behind me in the video) creates interference noise from the barrel?
