Every time I see that "Leave it up to me" frame with Equius, another small part of me dies. By the time of Alterniabound (or whatever that part with trolls hiding on the Veil's meteor called) he was already on the path of self-betterment. Though still being stuck in the cages of Alternian propaganda, he aknowleged that trolls can be smart and capable no matter their blood color. He built prostetic legs for Tavros, he was gentle and caring with Nepeta and role-played with her despite the "f100lishness" of that act. He was *already* becoming a better person. Hence the pain I felt when he died. I don't think it was entirely because of his desire to please a highblood. Remember that Gamzee was capable of chucklevoodoo, the power that allowed him to create Lil Cal - the doll that wrecked Bro's mind, was a vessel for Lord English and a part of Doc Scratch. The same chucklevoodoo was responsible for Dad placing harlequinns all over the house, which later resulted in Jack Noir killing the Black Queen and becoming Bec Noir. Do people really think Gamzee didn't use it on Equius to break his will? The horse guy had simply no chance against him.
