To be clear- white distilled vinegar just means that it was made from distilled ethanol (alcohol) and is most likely distilled from corn but not necessarily. Unlike the other vinegars made from fermented and undistilled products it will not have flavor from the corn.

I have common Bermuda grass, I have been doing this for the last 6 months, especially now that I can see the quack grass in dormant Bermuda lawn! This works 100%! I cover hole with a Bermuda plug and have had great success as Bermuda is Sooooo invasive and takes over. I have added preemergent Prodiamine WDG to entire yard and u r right, this works. Add the 70/30 sand soil ratio. My lawn is looking great!!

I have been searching for information on grafting pistachios for a long time! Are you still on KZbin three years later? I see that you had good success germinating seeds but you did not have good success grafting trees. Would you try again?

I would absolutely try again. I never had a mature tree to graft to, since all my vegetative starts died. When I moved I gave all my trees to a friend. I should ask her for an update!

@@foodforestfolderol Hi, I don’t know where you are, but I am in the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically the East Bay, Contra Costa County. I bought male and female Dave Wilson Nurseries Pistachio trees from a guy running a Tree Nursery out of his house in San Jose. My male tree has put out pollen, but my female tree has not produced flowers. I would like to try grafting. I am told that you can’t graft pistachio trunks, you have to graft buds. But do I graft female buds to a male tree, or the other way around?

Grafting is the best way to propagate - commercially a special rootstock is used but if you can't get grow seedlings from fresh fruit late summer. Thats why gracted named varieties are so expensive.

I'd suggest that you paint your reservoirs to stop light from getting to the nutrient solution. One of the nutrients that I use is called Rhizotonic and that's an algae based root stimulator. I don't think algae is something that you need to worry about... but it can gunk up your tubes.
@foodforestfolderol
@foodforestfolderol Жыл бұрын
The problem I've had with algae in the past is that it kills the plants. The fish cleaned up the tanks within a week or so.

Trees. That's what you need for drainage. Make a swale and burm (doesn't have to be much) with trees in a line and you can start directing and slowing the water. I recommend nut trees. Hazel's my favorite, personally.

That's my chicken/dog nightmare as well. Can't let them out or the dogs will get them. I'm going to invest in some electrified poultry fencing, I think. That way they can come out and the dogs will leave them alone. It also looks like you'd have good luck with swales around the beds in order to catch and the water. What do you think?
@foodforestfolderol
@foodforestfolderol Жыл бұрын
My neighbor locked him up, so that particular situation is on hold for now. I'm going to be doing some interior fencing (mainly to keep the velociraptors out of my garden) and that will rather limit the chickens free range area. At this point I have them free ranging dawn to dusk and they manage OK. I haven't had a chance to do the contour lines yet. I don't have access to a laser level, so it's going to be a while before I can figure out where water features need to go. Swales are in the plan, tentatively.

Should the plants do die back, you can also try keeping the scrapes "alive" as you would with fresh cut flowers in a vase of lukewarm (NOT cold) water and keeping it sunny outdoors. REPLACE the water every three days to prevent too much bacteria/fungus growth as well. If the scrapes STILL dying back, you can chop it upwards to the still green portion to keep it alive a bit longer as long as you still have viable green remaining.

I understand the reasoning behind using the leaves, but i think they shrink down to nothing as they dry out. If you havent already, try using straw the next time. Then hill those bad boys up as your plant grows. It was a great idea. Good luck next season. 🥰
