I used to surf ocean beach from time to time back in the 80s. I was a below average surfer in terms of what I could do on the wave. One time I managed to scratch myself outside on what turned out to be a big, really big day. I was way out of my league. Never had I seen waves this big and I had no desire to ride one. Waiting for a lull, I paddled for a four footer and made it back to safety. One of only two times I thought I may be in serious trouble.

Thats the boost you need to keep surfing. I was about to quit surfing and then i got a massive open face wave and thats what got me surfing 3 times a week for the next 5 years

Back in 60's-70s aka Ray Bay you could pickup a wave off the left jetty and ride it all the way right one. Then the city or state would dredge it and screw it up for a couple of years.

Been surfing 52 years. Went from uncrowded, lips are sealed to zoos in the water with cameras in their lips. Kook activity mostly now...

Without that sand berm to protect the homes the backwash would be gone and the full moon tides as you can see make for some nice barrels. looks fun.
