"Whether it's the screen writer, or Heath Ledger, or Christopher Nolan..." Nope. It was almost entirely Jack Nicholson. The tongue thing was 100% Nicholson. Nicholson coached Ledger all the way. Ledger even credited Nicholson in interviews, and said his Joker couldn't have happened without Nicholson. It's a shame nobody else gives Nicholson credit.

Mark is the best Joker. I love Heath Ledger's performance, but I'll always prefer Mark's creepy take on the character.

I know I am in the minority but…. MARK HAMILL IS THE BEST JOKER! IF he had done the Joker in Keaton Batman or Bale, he would have surpassed everyone! Idc what anyone says, HAMILL IS THE BEST!!!’ This and The Killing Joke proves that he’s THAT JOKER!!!

Wow, the best animated Joker saying the lines of the best live-action Joker is something that I never thought was needed but was definitely deserved. RIP Heath Ledger, the GOAT Joker of live-action Batman films, and Kevin Conroy, the GOAT of animated Batman and the entire DCAU

Hammill’s Joker’s backstory was that he was the oldest of eight and moved out at age 18 due to minor disagreements with his balding but well meaning father. They remained on good terms until he mysteriously disappeared from family life and was never mentioned again. He apparently went to live with an uncle and aunt until they were murdered by the Empire. After his days leading a successful rebellion, instead of accepting a position of authority, he returned to Earth to terrorize Gotham.

Honestly, I'm glad he's not stuck under Disneys thumb, because if they had bought DC instead of marvel, you know they would have RUINED the joker, and he would have retired his joker sooner than he did. Of course, he did that because Kevin Conroy is now departed, and if there's no bats, there's no fun for the joker. Now if he found a lightsaber....
