I grew up riding the Class 206 Tadpoles (same class 201 engine car as these) then x1 201 car and x1EPB passenger car. I have to say if I went on one this heritage set up now I'd be gutted if i got put in one of those 2 middle more modern carriages! Is it speed rated on the mainline? it used to hammer along the Reading-Tonbridge line when i was a kid!
@finbarholt4 ай бұрын
I agree the two mk1s in the middle do look rather out of place, I believe it runs at 75mph max.

I grew up in Dorking (born 1972) with the Reading-Tonbridge line running behind my house so the sound of the 206 Tadpole Units was as familiar as bread and butter. Such a wonderful sound. I think when I was very little I found standing on the platform next to the engine room quite scary! I travelled on them right up until they were replaced by the Class 117 DMUs in about 1979-1980. We used to travel to Gomshall quite a lot as kids to see Grandparents and when we heading home they used to thunder down the hill from Guildford direction and I still have a clear memory of how they rocked side to side on the tracks as they went over the pedestrian crossing (Gomshall has a staggered platform). I always thought the black triangle was the train sticking its tongue out at me lol! VERY occasionally an Oxted 207 would show its slimmer face on that line which was always exciting! Thanks for this - wonderful high quality footage!

Something that I envy you folks in Great Britain about, is how easily you can get a heritage locomotive out on an excursion, compared to here in the US. All the regulatory, corporate, insurance and financial hoops an organization has to go through requires darn near a year, just to get permission to run an excursion. Then you have the logistics of an excursion. By the time the owner of a heritage locomotive can put that together, money for the excursion is getting tight, so ticket prices go sky high. And, to boot, you have to find a branch line because of corporate imposed constraints on the main lines. Granted that we have tourist lines, and a couple of railroads that run "historic fleets," but their excursions are few and far between. As I said, I envy you. 😢😢😢
