Is Dan Air operating today, the same one as back in the day? Unclear to me

There's an airline in existence today with the same name, but it's Romania.

BA fukked over so many airlines in the 70s-90s. How many jobs did BA dirty tricks cost, all while ba was a money pit.

David James was brought in by Lloyds to recoup their money, not save Dan Air. As soon as he had done that, he was given directorship of a Lloyds company as reward, and Dan Air was refused any further loans and allowed to sink, selling to BA for £1. He was a financial criminal, and even the business world denounced him. Well done Lloyds Bank.

They were crap compared with Air 2000, Monarch, Caledonian and Britannia at the time and the planes were so old and smelly. Used to dread finding out we were flying with Dan Air as a kid and my parents thankfully stopped flying with Airtours holidays. I am sure they had a nice schedule service however.

They appeared quite an aged fleet, they just run out of money. Sad to see Monarch go the same way many years later. Used to love Britannia, did they not get taken over by Tui ? loved their branding.

Why does Virgin always try to buy failing airlines promising to "turn them around" etc. It's the sheer arrogance of Branson who thinks Virgin is some kind of gold standard.

Was Dan Air's safety record really that bad? I was born in '85 so I don't really know much about them but my Nan has mentioned that they had a reputation, but reputations can often be misleading and spread like Chinese whispers but, was any of it true?

Born in 1985 too and wondered the same. Asked my Dad about Dan-Air as a young aviation geek... My parents had the true belief avoid Dan-Air as they "always crash" So they deliberately booked Orion or Britannia to avoid Dan-Air on package hols! .. I think it must have been bad tabloid press after the Early 80's Dan Air Tenerife crash.

Also.... my mum told me her first flight was on Dan-Air and the oxygen masks deployed, but as she'd never flown before she didn't know what was going on and assumed it was normal 🤣

These cowboys were responable for killing my grandparents that I never knew in a crash in Tenerife in 1980. All though not wholly responable the pilot was partly responsible along with air traffic and lack of radar etc. The name Dan dare says it all. Good bye to bad rubbish.

No I can confirm they were rubbish and I longed to fly Britannia, Monarch, Air 2000 etc on their beautiful new 757 and 767 aircraft. Unfortunately the tour operator chose the airlines they used and if you were unlucky, you were on Dan Air

I was proud to work for Dan-Air and had pleasure in telling BA where to stick their offer of a job at the time and ive never regretted that decision

Whilst I understand your stance, it is all in vain pretty much as workers are collateral and you were but a number in a cog so you telling them where to go in an industry that is always oversubscribed with people wanting to join it, the likes of BA wouldn't even break a sweat.

@@jamesnicholls1054 there was a dan air crash there too, flight 1008 from Manchester was a Boeing 727 that due to pilot negligence crashed into a mountain when landing in low cloud.

what a fine job BA did, there whole operation at Gatwick is a shambles, any DanAir crew still employed by them today are being forced out or fired and re employed on less than half their salary. If British Airways hadnt been bailed out time and again by the british tax payer they would be long gone, mores the pity !
