Wow I can't believe that tiny little tuber produced so many flowers. This helps, thank you, but I'm still a bit confused. Some of them have bumps I thought were eyes but were just bumps. The eyes are all on the necks? Some of the necks have bumps but never sprouted. I'm going to have to pre-sprout them in the Spring or something. I just dug them up for winter and they're at least all firm and look healthy so far as I can tell. It rained a lot and there's a lot of clay in the soil so I was worried.

I have another video on dividing a big tuber where I show you how to spot the eyes if you go to my website there is an entire section just on dahlias, it’s all free, here is the link zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/

Last year was my first year of ever pulling out my dahlias. We don’t get a true hard frost here so I am wondering whether i should just pull ours up and store them like this until they go back in? 🤷♀

Just be careful em with any frost. Maybe bring indoors the odd night you get cold weather

I'm so glad I came across this video because I was transplanting some dahlias and thought I spotted gall! After watching this, I realized they're more likely just wet and swollen from getting steady water during and after a heatwave. Thanks so much for this video!

Great explanation and pics. At the 3 min mark, you showed a tuber and said its crown gall, did you mean leafy gall because of the type of growth or did you mean its gall at the crown? Just learning my way around this. Thanks
@zoewoodwardgardening15 күн бұрын
Crown Gall is the cauliflower like swelling on the tuber. Leafy Gall is the millions of sprouts xxx

My hollyhock leaves were growing beautifully then they started to get holes in them and turn yellow. The heat this summer was awful. What can I spray on them to prevent them from turning yellow or getting brown spots, please? I turned the leaves over and never could see any bugs but it must be some disease or something. Please reply when you can.
@zoewoodwardgardening15 күн бұрын
Hollyhocks can suffer from rust. Choose resistant varieties and a fungicide will help. As will keeping the leaves dry when watering xxx

When we were selling flowers professionally for weddings and they had to be perfect Neil created our flower frames which you can add lids to, either low down to double as cold frames and enable very early planting and later as an umbrella for the blooms. If you go to Neil’s page on my website all the details are there to make your own. zoewoodwardgardening.com/neils-page/

Thank you, Zoe! I’m excited to follow along as a beginner gardener. In the past, I’ve invested quite a bit in seeds, only to let them bake, drown, or dampen off. This time, I’m determined to follow your guidance to the letter and am really hoping for success! I’m planning to set up my second-hand greenhouse in the next two weeks. When do you plan on sowing your snapdragons?

Hi Zoe! My larkspur seeds germinated yesterday. I currently have them in a little plastic dome greenhouse in seed cells. They’re in my house (next to window) now that they germinated.. should I remove the plastic dome? Not sure how to look after them now. I still have 3 weeks of winter left. Cheers.

Very helpful vid. So you bring your yearlings into a greenhouse overwinter? I have several babies from this spring that are doing great, but I am in zone 5b. We have a closed in sunroom (without heat but doesn't freeze over winter except if we get a really bad deep freeze). Do you think they would be happy up there? Thanks! Even if you don't have a chance to respond. 😊
@zoewoodwardgardening2 ай бұрын
Yes that’s very sensible other the foliage will get damaged and a prolonged cold spell could kill them.
