I was at Phan Rang 1969 - 1970 as a communications technician. I recognize the building I worked in by the commuincations tower and reventment protected building to the left of the tower's base. It was called, 'The Red Rocket' and had a red drop tank fuel container at its interance. The base was also called, 'Happy Valley'. Allen Kimble

The load crew consisted of Bill (Willie) Wise, James (Rip) VanWinkle, Doug Blair (that's me putting on the shirt) and crew chief Tom Volkman.
Does anyone remember Master Sergeant Clyde Voges? The men under him called him Pappy.
@donaldmyck42962 жыл бұрын
I was a mechanic and crew chief on those for about four years. I always though it needed more powerful engines. If you firewalled the engines it would take a minute or so for the engines to catch up to the throttle. Only 7200 lbs. thrust in each engine. It was a pretty good airplane to work on. Still had old push-pull rods for the flight controls.
