Question. How do you hold the flag up? What is the base?
@lilgamoma4 сағат бұрын
I attach it to my vending tent with reusable zip ties but the right size pipe will fit in a standard flagpole holder.

is sodium alginate same as soda ash? I'm newbie of batik, and using soda mixing dye, i'm not sure doing right or wrong, but color variant gone about 20% after rinse.
@lilgamoma Жыл бұрын
No, they are 2 different things. Soda ash bonds the color with the fabric while sodium alginate thickens your dye. HTH!

Do you let it dry after the ash?
@lilgamoma2 жыл бұрын
I do because I batch ash my shirts so I can use for tie dye or batik, but you can tie it wet after you soak in soda ash. It's really just a matter of preference.

Thank you for the batik tutorials! I'm just getting into it. if you were doing 1 shirt, how much dye and water would you use?
@lilgamoma3 жыл бұрын
The overall dye amount would be the same for what you'd use for regular tie dye. The amount it really would depend on the size of a shirt as a small takes less dye than a xl for example. I couldn't really give an exact amount as I haven't done a single shirt in years and always do in batches.

Can u show how to put wax dye in satin
@lilgamoma3 жыл бұрын
A long as it's a natural satin or even better silk you would do the technique the same way but you would have better results with acid dyes. Most people that batik such thin fabrics will tack it across a frame for less wax to bleed out and cause large lines.

I'm confused about where to put the dye. The video is so fast, it's hard to tell how you tied the nose up. I also can't tell where you're supposed to put which dye on the skull. Yours looks SO great, but mine came out kind of crappy, the teeth were just one lIne of white. And the nostrils on mine were not perfect
@lilgamoma3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's speed up or it'd probably would have been about a half hour long. But please don't judge your results against mine. When I was first learning I messed up so much. Now I've been dyeing for a few decades but I still have designs that don't come out the way I want but we are our own worst critics. So practice makes progress!
@melaniecarlson66153 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not trying to judge you. I should have been more clear with my question: where are you putting the dye in the skull? I can't tell where the dye is going inside the face. Yours come out really great, and you're very good at what you do. Any help will be appreciated thank you for your response
@lilgamoma3 жыл бұрын
Okay, I think I understand your question. So the dye will go on the ties/where you draw out the design. I use washable markers so your dye gets placed directly on those lines. I hope that helps with understanding a little better. And variations always make each one unique. Good luck with your future dyeing attempts!

Where do I get soda ash? Is that baking soda?
@lilgamoma4 жыл бұрын
You can get soda ash from most places that sell fiber reactive dyes. An alternative is PH+ that is used for swimming pools. It is mixed one cup per gallon of water. And while baking soda is not exactly the same you can literally low temp cooking baking soda in the oven and you can change the chemical makeup (you can google the directions for the temp & time length as I can't remember that at the moment).
