A better way: use washing machine on delicate mode and lower temperature. I wash my pads like this, including artisan ones, some of em are 50x50cm. Very important not only to get it clean, but also to remove all soap. Just a way better way imo.

I will take my notes here. 1. wet the pad 2. use a sponge with a little bit of soap to scrub the pad 3. rinse and dry

you get control and speed pads (the speed/control can vary), then you get the size of the pad then some mousepads don't have stitched edges so they start to peel off, and you get the thickness of the pad. There are other things but those are mostly aesthetics or gimmicks. What I listed is what I imagine he is talking about because it's what I consider when buying one.
