Have you ever used the 2000xl just to beef up digital drums? I'm worried about the workflow but using it just as and I/O for beefing up drums seems like it could be the move.
@freeplaysamples2 күн бұрын
I have and often do use both the 2000xl and ASR to run digital samples and use effects or change the sonics. I have noticed that sampling into both does change the transient behavior on claps and snares. May be doing a video showing how these samplers change the sound of drums. Sometimes it’s what you’re looking for but other times it changes the sound very drastically. Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🏽

I have Zulu scsi but have to be honest; I don’t use it. The file structure of the ASR is confusing to me and I just transfer my work to the DAW as soon as I feel like it’s a good idea I want to continue to build on. The Facebook Ensoniq forum is a good place to find information/someone better versed with Zulu scsi, translator and file management on the ASR. Peace! 🫡💯🙏🏽

Great video. I've had my ASR since I bought it new in the 90s. Amazing machine. One thing for me with using hardware, especially vintage hardware, vs. a laptop is the creativity / inspiration factor. When I'm using vintage hardware, I feel like I'm "performing" live music. (I make Deep House, so it's a little different than beats). I find I'm much more inspired and creative. I sometimes use the DAW as a tool to create an end-product, but I wouldn't say I'm performing as much as I am "programming". Maybe it's a small difference, and I'm sure many may not agree, but for me personally, it makes a big impact in my music.
@freeplaysamplesАй бұрын
Peace and thanks for checking the video! I deeply have to agree; using samplers feels like an instrument and performing. It’s hard not to feel like we’re programming on the computers but, even back in the earlier years people who used drum machines on records were often credited under “drum programming” category. So it all comes full circle. The computer feels less fun and more “job like” but a necessary tool since we deal with digital distribution and have abandoned mixing and printing to tape for the most part. Cheers! 💯🫡

@@freeplaysamples Yes, exactly. Funny, you're right about the terminology, even I say to myself "I need to go play that bass intro and then *program* the drum beats", when it's all on vintage hardware! 😃🎹

Why not the SP-404 mk2 ?
@freeplaysamples2 ай бұрын
So I’ll elaborate more here since I avoided it in the video and if anyone cares to know. So here were my main contenders: The KO II, the sp404 mk2, the elektron digitakt 1 or 2, the elektron was octatrak, the op1/op1field, Ableton push 2/3. I took into account budget, sonic appeal to ME, portability with current setup. I have never used an SP and I still consider it for down the line. But after seeing one in person it was just too big to fit with all the other things I carry. Also the deep menu diving and workflow seems like it has a high learning curve. Same with elektron; workflow and lack of slicing on digi and I think octatrak is going to get updated soon. Push would tie me to a computer/expensive for standalone. Same with op1. I’m already using it as an effect box and running sections of songs through it and like the ease of use and quick access to effects. Also used it on batteries a bunch of times and never really had a portable sampler outside of Casio sk-1. An aux cable to my phone and headphones and the workflow is very quick and reminiscent of AKAI MPC combined with ASR-10 approach. If you wrap your head around the workflow you’ll see that they tried to borrow from the strength of (in my opinion) the two best and most straightforward samplers ever created. Got a lot on the wishlist but this fit the bill for now….hope that clarifies a bit. Peace!
@Dewane15112 ай бұрын
@@freeplaysamples yeah I make all my beats on the machine + which I like and the workflow . I wanted to get into one of these on the go samplers . I like the SP404mks but the menu diving is a bit off putting but I do think that is rolands way of doing thing more on that later. I heard once you wrap your head around its more of an instrument thoe. The octatrak is one of the most unique samplers that i think ive seen and I cant wait for the mk3 to come out its an instant cop when it does. The digitakt I like it but the idea of no manual slicing is crazy but i understand that it can be fixed in a firmware update but they dont want overshadow the big brother Octatrak I don't like how either of them sound thoe. I may have to check out the KO2 I just want something I can just sketch things out on cause I have no stand alone gears as of now . I want at least one piece gear that I can take on the go. SIDENOTE: I wish roland would get back to making like the SP-505s and 606s . To me currently roland have the best sounding samplers even the new Roland AIRA Compact P6 Desktop Creative Sampler sounds good

Just got a mpc1000 some weeks ago fresh outta service with pad and cover upgrade and after a view days with jjos2xl, was able to make a beat after beat in minutes! Those things are a blessing! May u can help? Need an analog mixer for the 6 outs on the 1000, microkorg, mic and vestax pmc06 with turntables. Any recommends? Not sure about a tascam or meckie.. give thanx for any advise! Peace and thanks for checking out the channel. You got started early on the MP that’s a blessing. I used a 1000 and 2500 with jjos for about a summer but couldn’t connect with certain things on the hardware for both and ended up selling and just keeping the 2kXL. I feel like every user has a machine that matches their workflow and the way they create. Maybe the 1000 was meant for you and that’s awesome. I’m probably not the best person to ask since I normally do my mixing inside the samplers and then try to track into a DAW as soon as I have a solid idea going. I hear the older Mackies are good and some have mentioned good things about the newer tascams but, do your research and maybe ask some other users on channels that show these units in use and have had them for a while (over a year should be a good time frame) to see if they’ve faced any issues. Obviously buying new can give you the peace of mind of a warranty etc. hope that helps and keep creating!💯❤️🔥

great video, but i wanted to know, let's say you have your 8 tracks from the asr-10, and if you record one track at a time from the asr-10, how do you go about aligning it with the rest of the remainder 7 tracks in protools so it plays all together?
@freeplaysamples4 ай бұрын
ProTools has a feature called “tab to transient”; you press tab button on an audio clip and it will automatically bring your cursor to the transient; I’ll hit cmd+e to cut the clip and then I line everything up from there. Hope this makes sense if not, I can include the process in another future video. Thanks for rocking with me 💯🫡

@@freeplaysamples man that would be great if you could do a short video about the process about tracking and aligning all tracks together! btw, by doing the "tab to transient" does the beats feels the same, like the swing and the feel or do you find it's a little bit different in the asr10 vs protools
@freeplaysamples4 ай бұрын
@@redspiderz6037 I’ll do a video soon breaking down the process of tracking into pro tools. It doesn’t change the feel at all. A transient is a transient; it’s when the sound starts. Even when I track artist I make sure the instrumentals I import start exactly on the transient in pro tools to make it possible to “fly over” hooks or copy information to other sections and not go off timing. I’ll elaborate this further in the video but, my short answer is no.
