Vacuum really does not suck but it sucks. You are 100% correct I hardly use mine because I have a old school vacuum that still is a champion I just wanted to get a newer one that was good for allergies and it was a waste of money I hardly used it and it's doing exactly what yours is

I have TWO of the red versions of this vac. The first, the roller bar wore out. It is sitting upstairs waiting for me to service it. The replacement for that lead me to this video..... so I'll be back to let you know if my vacuum comes back on after listening to your advice!!! Off to clean my vacuum, before cleaning lol

A lot of consumer vacuums these days aren’t built like they used to be many years ago and that’s why I tell everyone to buy a Kirby or a Workhorse cyclonic vacuum. Kirby’s are expensive but last for a few decades and don’t need as much maintenance as a bagless vacuum since they are bagged and the belt can be replaced with no tools whatsoever. The Workhorse cyclonic is a bit more expensive than most consumer vacuums since it’s essentially a commercial vacuum but the design is unchanged from the Amway CMS 1000/Cleartrak which dates back to the mid 80’s and can still be bought in the $300 to $400 range from a company by the name of WMJ Refurbish in Michigan. Nice thing about the Workhorse cyclonic is you can easily remove the cyclone assembly for cleaning and the filters are on the back for ease of cleaning and replacing.

The hose was the problem. Debris traps in the bend, right before that L tube, that feeds the canister. This is the worst design I've ever seen. I've got a decade older vacuum (different brand), that lets you valve switch from the floor to the hose. This crapper's floor setting sucks *THROUGH* the entire length of the hose, then into the canister (rather than straight from the floor into the cannister, like my decade older model). This Hoover design is so bad, on so many fronts. I got this Hoover for free though, basically brand new, a few years back (It was used a few months, before overheating issues). The cord got quite hot (the rolled up part) during overheating events - that design is *BAD* as well (spring-wrapping around/above the motor/heating element).

*This is a big sturdy vacuum cleaner without being too heavy🌼 **allabout.wiki/Hoover** I think it has 10x the suction power that my last vacuum had. Really great vacuum. I can't believe how much dog hair came up with the new vaccine even though I d vacuumed yesterday with the old one. Highly recommended.*

I bought this vac because I’ve loved Hoover’s since the mid 80’s. The first Wind Tunnel never was as good as my original old striped one in the 80’s. That thing was the beat vac in the world. It could pick up absolutely everything with NO clogs-not ever. I paid for a new impeller and replaced it myself after about 10 years and, it was good as new. I never had to do more than that other than the easy maintenance of changing a belt, replacing the bag, turning it upside down and removing things from the brush on RARE occasions. It was amazing. I can’t figure out why they went downhill or if it is just the fact that it’s bagless?? Anyway, thank you SO much! I already took mine apart as much as I could see to and removed not one, but a TON of clogs-still overheats. I was already looking at buying a mew one but am now about to go take it apart again, as you have shown additional parts that I need to check. Thanks!!!!!

Ok, so it isn't clear from your video (narration)......your title mentions "Overheating/Shutting Off", but you don't mention a fix in the video, assuming the shutting off is a electrical thing, meaning it has a safety thermocouple switch, or in layman's terms, a thermostat connected to a switch. And so, how does cleaning it solve an electrical issue??? All you talked about was cleaning and dismantling the canister. Not clear at all.....did I miss something?

Also check the hose that is permanently attached to the back of the unit. Mine had a whole popsicle stick in it, which had subsequently trapped a small whig's worth of hair. There's also a small filter in a drawer labeled "HEPA" that is under the cord spooler.

you know this is a good video and it got me heading down the road to taking apart the machine including brush and dirt pickup area. After performing your procedure I cleaned around the brush and there was a combined grapefruit size clump of hair blocking the input and surrounding area. The brush was wrapped with string and hair. This thing hides dirt and hair everywhere and like a dimwit, i dumped my last one, that was exactly like this one [from COSTCO]. All it needed was a little TLC. About a 1 hour job at a leisurely pace.

First, it's been 2 years since last comment.(and over 4 years since your video)..I hope you see my comment. Next, Hoover should pay you !!!! I've yet to try it, but if it works, I just may send it to Hoover company !! My Wind Tunnel Rewind Pet...has suction through the hose, but it's not picking up when I just use vacuum . Also, have picked up a over heating smell..so I run very little..as not to cause more damage. It would be nice to have a little booklet with tips of vacuum prroblems...how's about you write one for us !! ??!! Thanks so much for the info !!

You have to clean the hose and the button hose that sucks the dirt. Stick something through it make sure it’s clean. I’ve been using mine for about 5 years now and only cleaned it thoroughly 3 times and it’s working fine. Yeah take both filters out and smack them against something try not to break it. Also after that wash them with hot water and soft filter u can squeeze them and let them dry before putting it back. It should work and last u long time. Any vacuum will eventually get clogged and they have sensor that will shut it off so that motor doesn’t get over heated and melt. Hope it helps!

My Grandparents had one of those heavy metal Hoover (sled) (correction- Electrolux) vacuums in their cabin, probably from the 1930s. That thing was built like a tank and sucked up dirt like a junkyard magnet. Never overheated, only needed to replace paper filters. Today's "improved" version - not very impressive.

Hi - thanks for the video... BUT, I learned more about mine was overheating and shutting off. I watched a video from Ian from Hoover. My problem was in my hose which I pushed huge junk out with a broom handle. Shocking what was in there including a pencil. Then, I undid one screw to remove the another part of tube where the long tube feeds into. This was also jammed full like a birds nest. Check it out. I felt so proud I fixed it thanks to you and IAN❤️

I had checked the hose and it was clear. I can hear the difference in pitch when a vacuum starts to have a clog somewhere, which comes in handy. :) I threw this vacuum out years ago and bought a Shark which is SO MUCH EASIER to clean out! And when mine developed an electrical intermittency 4 years into the 5 year warranty, they sent us a whole new vacuum. I am NEVER buying one of these Hoovers ever again.
