Won't be too difficult to improve the overall stability of the new vessel, compared with the current Scillonian III (she's not nicknamed "Sickbucket" without good reason?), which has now been operating for more than 47 years! Scillonian III still presents herself beautifully though, particularly on a summers day when departing from Pensans harbour each morning during the season - we get a great view of her from our balcony!

So can I as a powerchair user board the vessel and move around in it in my power chair?

Fantastic update, Scillonian 4 looks absolutely stunning and it certainly looks like the onboard passenger experience will be taken to another level. 👏

Just been on ship to say goodbye, 47 years in trusty service , I'm not sure on it's replacement, at the end of the day it's a cruel sea and no computers or laptops will change the fact it's a steel hull floating on currents , the passengers I spoke to didn't care about how fast and comfort was just fine ,

Are they fully built in Vietnam or do they make the hull which it then outfitted somewhere else?
@zapfanzapfan3 ай бұрын
Hope you get batteries that can at least get you in and out of port without running the engines. Can you plug into shore power?

So many trusty old vessels wrongly get lambasted by people wanting something 'bigger, faster and better'. Thanks for this tribute to this beautiful vessel, if only more shipowners would appreciate some of their classics.

I've been visiting scillys for years and my family has visited for over 60 years now, I think our family name is now known in some parts of the islands 😂🤦♂️ amazing place, one of my favourite in the world! I will be returning soon with the next generation to carry on the tradition of visiting the islands! ❤❤

Alright if you want to spend a few grand for a week's holiday. Not everyone can afford it . I used to live on St Martin's but had to leave in 1986 because of lack of work that paid enough. No housing because it was all set up for the holiday seasons. Expensive food and fuel . I could go on . I love and miss the island but will never return as I'm to old now to travel .

The best place anywhere! My favourite island is Bryher. There’s a saying that you don’t go to Scilly twice - either you go once and don’t like it (can’t imagine that!), or you go once and you’re hooked. I’m definitely in the second category! If you haven’t been yet, book now while you can!

We never flew to the Islands for our annual holidays on St Martins between 1957 and 1959, because we had our dog with us, and animals weren't permitted on the pre-War Dragon Rapide biplane mini-airliners that REA operated in those days, but I remember the aircraft skimming over the Sound on their final approach to St Mary's. Our crossing was by the "Scillonian II", and was often a kind of purgatory one had to undergo to reach the paradise of Scilly. We had one smooth crossing out of six!
@davidsmith6634 жыл бұрын
My first crossing was amazing. I was invited to the bridge and was there till almost at St Marys. That a was flat calm. The return we had a following sea and many were sick. My second journey was as bad as the last. The third I went with a mate and I was about the only one no to be sick, with waves of vomit below decks. I Merely wanted to die on that one. The fourth was a one way and return by chopper. After that I swore never to go on her again.

A nice ship but surely but surely isnt it time to the improved their sale times and got something a lot quicker something like a hovercraft That they use in the Channel Islands just a thought

I've been on her several times and never been sick . Guess some people have it or don't. I think the only problem with this ship is her sail times . You leave Penzance at 9.15am , she doesn't get to st Mary's till nearly 12 pm or past that depends on the weather. Then within four hours she has to leave to get back to Penzance before it's too dark. For Day trippers this is not enough time . I used to live on St Martin's till I was 24 and struggled to make a living. Most earnings come from tourism or flowers. Perhaps when they get new faster ships it will be better. Maybe saving an hour or so extra on the islands gives you a chance to spend more time on the off islands.
