I have long wished to see the Society of Jesus return to the authentic spiritual sources inherited from Saint Ignatius. However, the opinion of the majority of Jesuits is that the spiritual life of the Jesuits as it stands corresponds to the ‘aggiornamento’ after the Second Vatican Council. One of the reasons for the spiritual decline of the order lies in the poor formation of young students worldwide. Personal prayer is not a daily requirement and this has negative consequences after these young people are ordained to the priesthood and applied to the service of the Church.
