@Hatley-o7s7 күн бұрын
@@ethanashley_sax that’s pretty cool! I’ve seen musicians on the balcony twice. The first time was at a choir concert there were singers on the sides and then a KZbin video of some Japanese people preforming holst’s Jupiter. So is it written in the piece for you to stand there or was that a choice the director made or what?

As a trumpet player of seven years here, the most important part of playing a trumpet is having fun. Learn the basics and get it to muscle memory, but never lose sight of how fun it is to play an instrument, especially how fun the trumpet is. By the way, when you are playing on the mouthpiece, try to eliminate all pressure from your playing (don't pull the instrument into your mouth). It shouldn't hurt after a while, you only should feel tired. Also, don't use the pinky ring for your right hand. This makes it harder to use your third finger quickly and comfortably. and when pressing down the valves, form your hand into a C shape (if you relax your hand, it will form this shape naturally). and when putting the mouthpiece on your face, try t put it on 50-50, that is half on your upper lip and half on the bottom lip.
@thesecondfeliks515227 күн бұрын
edit: try to make your mouthpiece buzzing as clear as possible. This will translate to a clear and open tone. Also, when tonguing rest your tongue against the upper part of your teeth. Lastly, keep your jaw open and teeth separated. Range will come with time, don't worry about playing high at first.

Ridiculously good tone for just one week of playing. I started playing trombone on exactly January 15th 2024, to which many people have stated that I've progressed much faster than the average person. Over the time though, I've experimented with many different embouchures and believed to have found the "correct" embouchure that not only can work with every brass instrument, but is the embouchure that many professionals use. Though even I'd take what I say with the smallest lightbulb that exist in this world because I haven't even been playing for a year. But I find it very interesting how you were able to achieve such good tone in just 7 days, while there are 6th graders that can't even make a sound in the same time frame. Is it because you were primarily focused on your embouchure? Maybe the skills from playing saxophone carry over? I had my brother try out the trumpet after I taught him the "correct" embouchure on just 10 minutes of playing, and he sounded very good and clear. Now of course it wasn't consistent, but it wasn't muddy and airy either. This might be something I need to look into. But yeah... sorry for the rant 😅. This video just reinforced my interest into the subject of brass pedagogy and how we're teaching beginners. (As far as advice is concerned, it appears you've got the embouchure nailed down. I'd just say ensure that your chin is flat and your bottom lip it against your bottom teeth, not above but against. And ensure that your mouth cavity and throat is open as with any other wind instrument. The ultimate goal you want to achieve is making sure you can connect your low register to your high register by moving only what's inside the mouthpiece.)

I'm by no means a brass expert, but I've always found euphonium and baritone horn to be the easiest brass instruments to play, by far. The embouchure for those is so much easier to me than trumpet, but they don't require nearly the volume of air of a tuba.

Sounds good. Have you tried applying the air speed you use for altissimo on the sax to the trumpet? They are both just playing over tones.

For altissimo you should actually use slightly less air on sax. I’ll get the high notes one day on the tpt

Great video! I am currently in the search for a new mouthpiece as an intermediate player who is currently playing on a yamaha 4c for alto with 2.25 légère signature! I am currently looking into the s80 c*, and was wondering what reed strength would you find most appropriate? Would also love other mouthpiece suggestions, thank you!
@ethanashley_saxАй бұрын
I think the s80 is a great idea for your next mpc. I’ve never played one so I’m not entirely sure what reed strength, maybe something like 3.5?
@Thebig1776LАй бұрын
what legere would you recommend for tenor? I’m playing on a Vandoren Tl4 with blue box 3s but they’re mega inconsistent from reed to reed
@ethanashley_saxАй бұрын

@stevekeller4814Ай бұрын
Figure out how to adjust cane reeds, and you will never be in this situation for the rest of your life. Buying a mouthpiece to suit a synthetic reed seems like the height of idiocy to me.
