Karimala is known for its tough terrain. Throughout the route, you will find a lot of tree roots, pointed pebbles etc. Karimala irakkam is steeper than Karimala keyattam.

Very useful and informative video... I am a non Keralite and would be visiting Sabrimala from Mumbai alone. I wish to take this traditional trekking path. I will be reaching Kottayam by train in the evening and plan to reach Erumeli for night Halt. I have certain queries. Are there any designated places / dharamshalas / dormitories / ashrams where Swamis can stay overnight at Erumeli or do I need to look for a room in some hotel near by? I wish to do Kettunira (get Irumuddi from Guruswami) at Erumeli before starting from Erumelli. Can this be done by some Guruswami locally who can help me in this? I also need to get a two chamber Irumudi Bag from Erumeli. Hope that should be easily available As I would be travelling from Mumbai alone, I will be carrying a small backpack. Do administration allow Swamis to carry backpacks while going for a darshan at Sannidhanam? If not, is there any cloak room facility where a bag can be kept while going for a darshan? I would really appreciate if you can help answer these queries based on your experience. Thanks in Advance. Swami Sharanam Ayyappa!!

Hi Mehul, Please try booking your stay at PWD Resthouse Erumely. Here’s the link: resthouse.pwd.kerala.gov.in/resthouse/details/MTAwOA== You can get your Irumudi done at the Dharmasatha temple at Erumely. Irumudi kit should be available in local shops at Erumely throughout the night during this season. If you’re reaching late around midnight, you might not need to book a stay. Backpacks can be carried till Sannidhanam. There are no restrictions. In fact, you will need it throughout your journey.
