SO this equation doesn't work if there is no second difference?
@thebielecmethod48844 күн бұрын
If the x values are increasing by 1 then it should have a 2nd difference. If it does not have a 2nd difference, then it is not a quadratic.

When finding the a, what if the second different is inconsistent?
@thebielecmethod488419 күн бұрын
If x values are increasing by 1 the 2nd difference will always be consistent. In the case that it’s not you are dealing with something other than a quadratic.
@LidiaOrdoñez-y7s19 күн бұрын
This makes so much sense! But quick question should this work (specifically the how to find the “a” rule) even if the x on the table has a difference of 2s? Like the x: 0,2,4,6,8 and y: -3,-3,5,21, 45? Should a be 4?

Numbers are different from letters. Then at some time in the distant past, people started to think about numbers whose values were not yet known. How do you write down a number when you don't know its value...? You give it a simple name first, then use that name in equations to help determine the value of your number... The easiest name for something is a single letter, be it A, B, C, or X, Y, Z...

Sometime this is one of the most challenging steps in math for young students to realize. Giving strong definitions of what variables are and why they are needed in math is important for students entering Algebra.

It's funny how the symbol used for "Approximately Equal To ≅" in engineering is the same as the symbol used for "Congruent ≅" in geometry... Congruent geometric figures have the same geometric form, meaning that if Figure 'A' can be transformed into Figure 'B' using simple translation, rotation, and reflection, then Figure 'A' is CONGRUENT to Figure 'B'. When you require a "dilation" transform, then you are either expanding or shrinking the Figure, so the best you can do is have two "Similar" Figures, each with a different "Size"... This is a great lesson to highlight the importance of a standardised and precisely defined nomenclature for all of mathematics. Learning all of the technical terminology may seem tedious and arcane, at first, but when you discover something important, then you need a way to communicate your discovery to the rest of the world. The precise and universal language of mathematics allows you to do exactly that, and thus you can communicate with 100% fidelity. Also, it's important to recapitulate that any two triangles with a run of Angle-Side-Angle in common... They MUST be congruent. Why? Because ASA guarantees one and ONLY one triangle... In other words... If you tell somebody to draw a triangle with ASA specified... Then they will ALWAYS, without exception, draw the same ONE triangle. ASA Congruence may as well be ASASAS congruence...!

I though approximately equal to was like 2 ~ stacked on top of eachother
@johnpauladamovsky86Ай бұрын
@@mythicalism1468 I doubt that there is a standard nomenclature for mathematical operators using the '~' symbol, because of the inexact nature of their meaning. From what I have discovered by googling the 2 '~' on top of each other, they mean, "ALMOST EQUAL TO", which is context-specific, because when you are trying to "approximate" something, you have an aim to get as close as you can to it, whereas "almost" means that two quantities can be arbitrarily "close" to each other, when there is no intent attached to the observation. In other words, it depends on what the definition of the word "is" is...
@thebielecmethod4884Ай бұрын
@mythicalism1468 we aren’t showing approximately in this problem we are showing congruency.
@johnpauladamovsky86Ай бұрын
@@thebielecmethod4884 I'm pretty sure that @mythicalism1468 was challenging my assertion that in engineering "≅" means "Approximately Equal To". His understanding was that "≈", the double stacked "tilde" was used to delineate "Approximately Equal To". My aerospace science engineering professors all used this symbol "≅" to mean "Approximately Equal To". So that is what I use. Apparently, it also means "Congruent". It's too bad that standardised nomenclature still has some intractable ambiguity.

this is very interesting, first this problem started with linear equation in two variable and then turned into quadric equation.
