$1000? Nah. Firstly, its euros. Secondly, I've eaten all over Greece and it's generally cheaper than eating in my home country, nowhere near $1000. Tavernas that bring you free food/drink at the end of a meal aren't necessarily more expensive than those that don't. It's just a relatively common custom. I mean, I've even eaten until absolutely stuffed in an authentic Greek taverna in London for about £50 altogether for 2-3 people, and even they brought free baklava at the end of the meal.

What are you talking about. The average taverna will cost you between 15€ and 35€ per person, according to what you order. Went out with friends recently for dinner and we had several mezedes, 5 main dishes and 1,5 liters of wine and some souma and we paid 130€. And of course we got a free desert 😂
