Palat is fkn amazing if it wasn’t for him so many good plays wouldn’t have happened ever since he came to us
@Dirks_NUMA_Files2 сағат бұрын
This year I referred to him as the "Invisible Man." He was virtually nonexistent this year. He is getting paid a boatload of cash and I wish he showed up more on the score sheet to justify that cost. But there is an intangible piece that we the fans don't see and that is his impact on his teammates in the locker room and on the ice (At least I hope)....
@fakedeath132 сағат бұрын
Hes a 3 million dollar player making double that amount. I blame Fitzgerald more but I don't think Palat brings much to this team that another bottom 6 players couldn't.
@billbaker33572 сағат бұрын
Why Do So Many People Hate Ondřej Palát? It is because Palát doesn't put up the numbers (goals, assist, advanced metrics, hits, extra) to justify his contract; full stop. It was a bad signing when it was made, and it has only aged worse. His only 'good' qualities are mostly unquantifiable: he brings a winning culture (yes, he was on a team that won the cup; but that is just paying for past results, not futures.), he is a leader (this one probably has the most positives if true; but it is something hard to put numbers on and hard to see as a fan.), and, the thing people talk about the most, he steps up when it matters most (This one I hate the most, as it takes small sample sizes as gospel; it just means he got lucky that he hot at the right time. Then, once people get it in their heads, it just continues as confirmation bias. "Look he got an assist, he stepped it up!", "Look, he made a big hit and then we won the game, he stepped it up!", "Look, he is breathing in the playoff game, he stepped it up!"... Once a guy gets this reputation, they get overpaid and anything they do in the playoffs is overblown as them stepping up their game when it is needed the most.) All in all, people just hate on Palát because he is the Devil's 'bad contract'; and simply fans cannot justify the amount he gets paid. It was an overpayment when it was made, and as he ages, it is a bad contract looks worse and worse with time (and with the NMC, it won't be going anywhere). Anytime you pay a bottom 6 guy top line money, they will receive hate from the fanbase.

Yes, it's a pricey contract that we all wish was cheaper, etc. But given that it is what it is, I think it's on Palat to bounce back and live up to what got him signed in the first place: playoff performance and experience. This past season was a disaster for the entire team and Palat was not the cause of their struggles. If they push their way back to the playoffs, and he disappears at that point, THEN I feel there's reason to really get mad at the guy. But if he's helping them play well, help them shut their opponents down, help the inexperienced guys step up their game, etc, then he's doing what he was hired for and we should just chill out about his contract. It's not the worst deal ever signed anyway.
@devilsarebeastly2 сағат бұрын
So Palat has a NMC for this season but the last two seasons it drops to a 10 team no trade. Yes Palat is a bit over paid but he's a solid player outside the cap hit and he's also the vet with a cup to give weight to his message and bring that experience to the group.
@420since19747 сағат бұрын
What some people are missing is that the Flames have the ultimate power in a Markstrom trade. Sure, Markstrom has a NMC, but Calgary does not have to trade him. They signed him as a UFA, so they have nothing invested in him except for money. If Conroy can't get his asking price, the Flames will just quite happily keep Markstrom.
@guitarmemoir14 сағат бұрын
As for Markstrom having the leverage because he has to waive, the Flames have the leverage of not dealing him unless he goes to the team that offers the best deal. If he wants to move on he will probably comply. I think it is a wash. I have heard he will not waive to a WC team, he wants to be in the East. So there is that. Seems like NJ fans want to give up next to nothing for a top tier goaltender and Flames fans want the entire farm for two years of Markstrom. I think NJ fans have to realize that dealing for potential upside is risky. Just like dealing for picks. There is no guarantee on any pick, even 10th overall. You might get a Mikko Rantanen, but it might be a Nick Ritchie. Mercer's future looks bright, but it wouldn't be the first time a young player with ostensibly tonnes of upside doesn't achieve it. I also think that Flames fans need to realize 10 OA probably isn't happening without an add. Same with Mercer. However, in the case of Mercer, or Bahl for that matter, if CGY really wants them, new offer sheet rules only require a 2nd round pick compensation for a sheet up to $4.5 mil. They can also use that option as leverage. Either way, I would like to see Markstrom finally dealt so everyone can finally focus on something else. 😉

If you have a plethora of solid prospects and picks, wouldn't it be wise to trade for a piece that you are missing? You have to give to get. Markstrom instantly makes your team a contender, Mercer does not. Maybe you just need another year of missing out before you realize how important goaltending is. NJ history with goalies makes me think you all should know better.

“It’s not often a team trades its silky smooth scorer….even less common to target a ‘pest’ in return. The swap signaled Florida was ready for a redo…taking a first step…to propel the Panthers farther than they’d been in 25 years.” That’s from an ESPN article a while back. Jack is our Huberdeau. Could Jack ever make it through the playoffs? Be honest. Jack can’t even make it through a regular season. Look at the brutal physicality of game 2 a couple of nights ago. Glorious intense heavyweight playoff hockey. Devils Championship? Not when your best player is 5’10” 167. Forget it. Get Brady. Go back to our roots. Establish a take no prisoner culture once again. That is Devils Hockey.

On the main Flames discussion board there are a few guys that allegedly have had inside info on Flames trades in the past both claiming that an NJ "deal in principle" for Markstrom is done, they just arent going to announce it during the Stanley Cup final. Take that for what its worth but Flames fans "in the know" are saying it has already happened. Stay tuned.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Markstrom? He’d be a temporary fix. The Devils need a younger, elite goalie locked down for a decent time. If they go with Markstrom, they better sign him for no more than 3 years, but they also need to concentrate on improving the blue line by a lot, not only in talent, but also structure…… Strong defense makes a good goalie a great goalie……

Collation was also coaching a depleted Blackhawks team, similar to Haynes in 2015, look forward to seeing what he can bring as an assistant. That being said why is that bum Rogalski staying!? Jordan > Lebron, Lebron has longevity in his playing career but Jordan was a better player, businessman, actor, and overall person off the court.
