I really think they should stop this Marine from holding the salute - this is not what the salute is intended

Patrick Hughes, thanks for sharing ..... ! Private Rambo, who joined the U.S. Marine Corps from Illinois, served with Company H, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. He was killed in action on November 20, 1943, during the amphibious assault on Betio Island, the opening salvo of the Battle of Tarawa. He was buried in a cemetery later designated Cemetery 27; however, in 1946, repatriation efforts on the island failed to locate the burial site. In 2015, the non-profit organization, History Flight (now an external provider of DPAA), located Cemetery 27 while excavating on Betio. The remains recovered from the cemetery were turned over to DPAA. In 2019, DPAA analysts identified Private Rambo from among those remains. Private Rambo is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

In my 22 yrs. Service in the Marines as a member of all three Force Recon companies, as a Scout/Sniper I've seen this scene way to many times, for Marines that gave all in distant lands. And we all gave some, those who gave all were actually the lucky ones. They didn't have to come back to this country that thinks "Thank You for Your Service!" Is all they owe us, didn't have to watch 30 veterans a day kill themselves in obvious suicides, (which doesn't count those who actually killed themselves thru drunken car accidents, drug overdose, those who died from the other various things that kill the homeless bcuz they came back to this country only to find themselves on the streets) with that constant sickening mantra of civilian new buzz phrase Thank You for Your Service!" ringing in their ears n minds. Different from the Vietnam War's civilian mantra of "Baby-Killer" cuz it leaves them civilians warm and fuzzy inside, thinking they did us some great things or acknowledging our service bestows upon us the thoughts of "Wow they really appreciate my 4 purple hearts for wounds received in combat. " Until you hear the other part of that great civilian mantra, once they find out you homeless of: "Now get the hell out of our Neighborhood!" Once they realize that it turns my gut to hear a bunch of cowards and busy body bitches "Praise" me and my fellow veterans, when they got no idea what my service was, sickens me when I see these outstanding Marines being buried, with virtually no mourners, outside of family and a few friends present. That the Marines on that burial detail are their real friends and family. When the hell did some catchy words make up for the debt of honor owed to ALL veterans of the United States military? A debt many will say is owed to us veterans, but damn few are ponying up out of their pockets as thanks for our service. But they sat back here safe and fat n happy, using the same time frame we veterans used to protect their asses, in amassing wealth, homes, businesses, families, and cars! Willing to give empty lip service to "Thank You for Your Service!" But with hands gripping wealth that a fraction of which if given as freely as the civilian cowards mantra, would give us veterans a new lease on life and an actual future beyond the streets, homelessness and death! We the unknowing, lead by the uncaring, sacrifice our youth and lives for the ungrateful, so they can shunt aside those who gave breathe, blood, youth, and even our lives so that their bloody hands can grasp the things that could keep us alive, but instead guarantee more of us will die by our own hands, here in the land we fought to keep free, and many died in far off lands. America your veterans of military service are truly the ONLY entitled people in this land, bcuz they bought that entitlement with their service. You want to thank me for my service? Give me a nice 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, rent free, no utilities, some decent cable TV, Wi-Fi, a up to date smart phone with free service every 6 months or so. A decent transportation vehicle of our choosing, nothing fancy with free maintenance and access to Thrift stores for clothing and household basics, and a couple thousand dollars a month for food n consumables and then be left alone to live our lives as we chose. THAT would be a proper: "Thank You for Your Service!" (Not Likely!)
