This is an interesting video. I suspect that I create videos a little like this in the way that they are almost certainly more interesting to me than to anyone else in the world. This video will be an amazing time capsule to show to your kids/grandkids in a few decades.

I LOVE the way you presented this bike tour! Having watched quite a few other bike tour videos, I compliment you on avoiding overly long shots of any one thing and instead giving your viewers a generous sampling of your experience. Good choice of background music too! Your video conveys your fun personalities and playful interaction without saying a single word. Please keep up the fine work and keep riding!

I just started watching your video. Take my advise. Pick yourself up a used kevlar canoe. Outfitters may still have a few from last year. Piragis up in ealy is already taking deposits on new canoes that they will sell at the end of the year. Other outfitters hold onto their canoes longer. You can pick up a solid but scratched up canoe for $1200. Kevlar will be 30 to 40 pounds lighter. Much quieter and much faster and cooler. And can last you for decades with some maintenance.

Im looking at doing some or most of the FT soon, what areas would I want to AVOID to not walk in ankle to Chest deep water? Seriously...I know there are some great spots that I will miss, but I prefer to not walk in deep water. Not out to get a official thru hike but want to see a lot of it thanks

To be honest the only areas where we did NOT get wet (excluding rain) were Ocala NF, Pensacola Gulf Island National Seashore, Lake O, Citrus and Croom Track, and all of the road walks (haha..). We had wet feet almost daily everywhere else, BUT wet feet for us meant no blisters and lots of drinking water.

The deep water portions, in the beginning of the video, were in Kissimmee FL. Approximately around the second-third week of January. We first arrived, going northbound, at the ranger station and campground of Kissimmee Prairie Preserve. The rangers themselves said that we would be swimming and identified a longer route to bypass the slough, but we decided to go forward and get soaking wet. It was terrifying, but exhilarating.

"terrifying". I can imagine. I'm planning a section hike in Big Cypress some time soon but with all the rain we have had recently I'm not sure I want to spend 3-4 days swimming. Any advice?

Not just the rain, but the mosquito population will be in full swarm. I would wait till November, by then the summer precipitation should have slowed and it will be cooler/less buggy. The water levels should have dropped by the Fall.

Well... It was chest deep in Kissimmee . We swam across the river in Eglin AFB. The Blackwater River rose several feet deep causing us to swim one section of the trail. Overall I think our feet were wet almost every day. It was great!

Hi Abigail - I just stumbled upon your Florida Trail video on the 2016 FB page, and I was so encouraged by your trip! I have only done sections, but hope to do the whole thing one day. I am but a novice compared to you at this point. Do you have any other resources about your trip? Journals, other videos, notes, etc? That would be interesting to read. I also shared the video :) Also, I lived in Gainesville for almost 4 years and have been to the prairie several times. On one occasion, I saw 30 buffalo. THIRTY. And I was the only one out there, about 20 ft. away from the herd. It was amazing. There are also wild horses, pigs, turkey, and thousands of alligators. I hope you return at the right time and see these for yourself. Anyways, your video is awesome - I enjoyed it very much. Thank you and God bless you. P.S. I'm assuming that's your boyfriend? Y'all are too stinkin cute.

Hey! Thanks for taking an interest in my video! Other resources... well the FL Trail Guide by Sandra Friend was extremely helpful when planning food drops and pickups. Another resource, was the FL Trail Facebook page for Class of 2016 where all of the thru and section hikers posted updates and photos. My trip in particular, I have a spreadsheet of our tentative day by day schedule (which we rarely followed) but it was good to keep us on track. I kept a personal daily journal of my trip and I would encourage you to do the same for any outing, because it's great to look back on what inspired or amazed you back then that you might have forgotten about. Thanks for sharing!! That's amazing to hear about your experience in Gainesville! We were only fortunate enough to see horse/buffalo feces haha... But It's wonderful to know that they are out there! Thanks for all of the compliments :)

We both had Osprey packs, Merrell boots, an MSR Wisperlight stove, Thermorest Z-Pads, 1 person Easton Mtn. Rimrock tent (me), 2 person Big Agnes tent (Cody), first aid kit, pocket knives, headlamps (mine was a Black Diamond), a pump filter which soon broke and we bought a Sawyer instead, two hats, clothes, rain jackets, water bottles (Nalgene), a spoon each, one pot, two cups, toiletries... and some other miscellaneous items. On average our packs were 25-50lbs depending on our food. I encourage not only you, but everyone else to get out there and have an adventure too!
