Think Aliens was playing in theatres round about the same time and all the hype and excitement was around that (understandably) but yes, MH was grossly overlooked

It’s goofy, but it has such amazing action sequences. And Venom, from day one, has kind of worked as being a bit of a goofy character.

I saw this movie and William Peterson's other movie To Live And Die In LA on either a local TV station or basic cable channel wondering why I never even heard of these movies . They should have been big hits . Im guessing this movie suffered from the success of ALIENS which was also playing in theaters at the time .
