Oh, Howard stern has changed, oh he’s now a cat lady. Well, how do you expect your 72 year old dad to act & behave ? You still want that outrageous Howard.

I love that these days we always think the new generation is doomed by stupidity but then when listening to the archives you hear all the same dumb people, political issues, celebrities behavior etc.

I'm here on 8/26/2024, roughly 16 hours after 880 WCBS ceased to exist, becoming yet another ESPN sports station on the NYC landscape. The change happened at 12:01am this date. As we heard here, WNBCs change to WFAN on 10/7/1988 was a respectful transition, just like WABCs change to talk on 5/10/1982. However, WCBS's transition was nothing of the sort. The final moments of 880 WCBS ended with about two minutes of dead air, followed by an ESPN program already in progress. There was no acknowledgment of 880 WCBS by ESPN. What a major disappointment and more importantly, what disrespect for the legacy of 880 WCBS. This is a sad day.

Why is it sad? No one's great forever(athletes, actors musicians)...Howard had his time, and he chose to go in a different direction. Folks do change as they get older. You can't expect Howard to be the same as he was in his younger, angrier 20s, 30s, even 40s. I don't understand the people complaining about his show now. Don't tune in....just listen to the classic stuff and appreciate the decades of wacky radio Howard and the gang gave us.

"You heard the countdown - it's over" as heard in the background was spoken by Roger Grimsby - then at the studio doing his piece about the station's coming demise for WNBC-TV, thus he was truly the last voice heard on 66 WNBC.

I personally don't care for Stern, but have to give him respect for the empire he built on something as stupid as radio. I worked in the business for 40 years. I'm not as talented or smart as Stern, but I do know how to turn off a hot mic during a song (geez), even though I never achieved the success he did.

Howard revolutionized FM radio.
@PlutoTheGod
@PlutoTheGod 5 ай бұрын
He alone honestly revived radio from basically a dying age post television, created a whole new genre for it, carried stations on his back & then pretty much single handedly made sirius and XM a thing. Without him they both would have gone under and talk radio would just be news or small town jocks making a couple comments between songs.
