Instead of a swallow-able bead, I recommend a knot of white perlé cotton Thread. There are several thicknesses by DMC. A French not should work, of several. Cute idea.

It's a very cute pattern! Although it wouldn't look as cute, I would prefer to make the face with marker so the pieces couldn't be swallowed. I would also eliminate the beads at the bottom. As I said these are my preferences. I really do like the idea!
