Honda uses a special type of breakin oil when seating the piston rings in their engines, then that oil is drain, and then a factory break in oil is put into the engine. Neither of these engine oils are synthetic, and don’t have detergents in them. The oil in the engine from the factory is not the GN4 oil shown here, the oil in a brand new engine is a specific oil for the new engine, and should not be changed until the scheduled first oil change. It’s not a bad idea to use the GN4 non synthetic oil like the one in the video after the first oil change either, but the oil change after that then you can go to synthetics recommended by the manufacturer. Synthetic oils are slipperier than non synthetic oils, and non synthetic oils are better for the break in period, which is why they don’t put synthetic oils in brand new engines. Honda’s are pretty forgiving, but ideally you want to leave the oil that’s in it until it’s supposed to be changed according to the owners manual. Remember they did in fact build the engine, but they needed quality oil to engineer it. They know what they are doing, the Honda oil has did quite well in independent third party studies, but valvoline not so much. If you went with Honda’s GN4 Fully Synthetic you would have a slipperier oil, and would most likely have a smoother experience. You don’t want that slipperier oil in a brand new engine, until after at least the first scheduled oil change, preferably the second oil change. Those of us who have used Honda GN4 oil know it’s not a bad oil, but there is a difference between non synthetic oils, and synthetics.

Just did an oil change on my 250L and went from Honda GN4 to Valvoline 10w40. Even at early service, the GN4 came out very thin and dirty. We’ll see how the V runs.

These old Ford's remind me of my dad. He was ford man. Loved f100 with 300 inline 6 or other V8 trucks as well. Old Ford's are built to last.

Change the oil every 8 to 10 hours? I’ve never heard of such frequent oil change unless it’s some type of oil to promote brake-in of a new engine or you are involved in some type of competition where you’re maxing out the RPM on a track.

Very nice truck! Growing up, my dad had a ‘77 F250 4X4. I was about 8 years old when he taught me to drive it. We heated our house with wood, so when we’d go cut wood, he knew that if he got hurt with the chainsaw, I could drive him to the hospital. I have a special place in my heart for the dentside trucks.

I’ve used Honda oil for years. Never had one single problem, or noticed any increased engine noise. You need to compare the same weights. Honda oil is made by a global name brand manufacturer too.

I started using Valvoline ATV oil in my Honda Rancher ATV simple because the local Honda dealer went out of business. Valvoline motorcycle oil is available at the local Tractor supply. No amazing story to tell though...Valvoline seems to run fine.

There's another oil filter on this bike that's called a centrifugal oil filter. I'm not sure how often it needs to be cleaned, but it requires removing a brake cable and a couple of gaskets need to be replaced with the cover you take off. I'm looking at buying one of these and not looking forward to cleaning that secondary filter.

There’s a good chance Valvoline, Castrol or Mobil make oil for Honda, I picked up oil in bulk containers at castrol and carry it to a John deer manufacturing, so there’s no telling who makes oil for a lot motor cycles with there name on the bottle

I run Valoline MC oil in my Ninjas' both the 03/04 636 and 2020 KRT 400 commuter and have always had good results. At the price I dont think it's a bad product at all and my bikes see ALOT of heat and RPM.

Honda gets (contracts) some major oil company to supply the GN4 Oil with Honda's name on it. I would like to know who it is, because I would rather buy right from the source rather then pay extra money for a Honda lable. Its hard to find 10W30 Motorcycle oil! (its a bullshit game manufactures do to screw the customer!)
