@SimplyAPiano 11. This Chopsticks roll was originally a QRS roll. She did 10 with QRS and one original with Playrite which is Harper Valley PTA If you're further interested, go to my playlists. I have one specifically for Jo Ann Castle. I don't have all of them recorded yet, but those that I do, you can find them there.

This is an old 'player piano' the paper roll in the middle has holes punched in it, and when the air escapes it hits the piano note. @@Theprobot1234 they started being made in the early 1800s and stopped in the early 1990s, so there are tons of them out there. Infact you can find them almost free because they are so hard to move and usally need lots of work. This one is from 1988!

Most people underestimate the power of these aeolians! You just gotta take care of them! (Not saying you underestimated it btw😅) both this one and mine are in almost perfect playing condition!

@ Speaking of Aeolians…. I now have an Aeolian Orchestrelle Player Reed Organ! I showed it briefly in one of my streams. It was half built about 10 years ago, and I’m starting on it after the 1960s player I have, which can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. The pianos Aeolian made are pretty decent, the only thing I’m not too hot on is using sponge in the valves. Most of the time it falls apart and dries out. But like you said, if you take care of them they play well! As yours and the one in the video do.

@@nickalasmontano1496 J. Lawrence Cook is estimated to have made around 20,000 recordings. He was hired by QRS in 1923, so this roll had to be made some time before then.

Im not sure what you mean by Regulator. If you are refering to the dampener that gives it a more tin like sound, then yes, that was off for this.

Is this a tired Pianola version of "Roll Em Pete"? It sounds like. Look up Neville Dickie's version of it on a a 1970's Boogie Woogie Record. and see the energy and the right speed with a drummer too. Very energetic and right.

It was written in 1960 by Bent Fabricius Bjerre as a signature melody for a TV show. It was named, as was the show, "Omkring et flygel". (Around a grand piano). Atco Records in USA didn't like the name, so it was renamed Alley Cat, and in 1963 happened to win a Grammy for best Rock'n Roll record.

They run on vacume. Luckily for me this one has an electric vacume hooked to it. But before that there were pedals on the bottom that you pushed to build vacume pressure.

@@jimwile9313 i have some other videos where I show the moving parts as it plays. Its amazing to think this is how they did it in the time before electricity. George Gershwin actually 'recorded' himself playing his songs on a player piano. In the 90s they released the recordings on CD. That lead to my intrest in player pianos, but I never had the chamce to get one until now. I actually have a Gershwin roll, played by him now I just need to get it recorded and uploaded.

I've tried to learn this tune, it's deceptively hard. Pauline Alpert made a spectacular roll of this one for Duo-Art, one of the most beautiful rolls out there.

There's an old Aeolian Sting or Cabaret sitting at the Burlington airport in Vermont, it's really funny how this piano sounds almost exactly like that one except yours is in tune and in good playing condition unlike the one at the airport. These little Aeolian players have a very Baldwinesque tone.

Agreed. This one also has a (I dont know the actual term) dampener. When turned on it gives the piano a quietier and tinny sound. It really makes me thing 'old wild west saloon'. I will have to do some recordings of that and show everyone.

This brings back some very fond memories of my Great Aunt that had a pianola and a huge collection of piano rolls stacked to the 10' ceiling. As a kid I'd sit on that pianola all day just playing all the rolls. I don't think I came close to playing them all. I never found out what happened to the pianola after she passed, I would have loved to inherit that.
