3:38 - 3:53 always reminded me of The Indian in the Cupboard.

were playing this for our Christmas concert his year. i love the song but it has such a weak ending :I I'm sure its "technically" good, but it doesn't hold up to the rest of the song in my opinion

This was one of the pieces my Sr. Band played for my final year in high school. I remember this piece being one of my favourites to play in class despite missing a lower brass section. The sways and pulls of each note and section always pulled at my heart, calling for me to just sway along with the music and become completely absorbed in the atmosphere. The harmony of the french horn, the instrument I played was especially beautiful to me. Yes because I played it, but also because the melody itself created so much complexity in the piece. It was like I was floating above it all, like leaves in the wind being taken away to new unknown lands, accenting a blue sky with vibrant yellows, oranges and reds. Hearing this during our final concert for the year was even more breathtaking than I could ever imagine. Finally being able to play all together with the other classes swelled a feeling of wholeness inside of me. The sweet melody of the upper winds being grounded by the rumbling grounded foundation of the lower brass, and my part, our part as the french horns all coming together as one whole sound. Even rehearsals were magical but the final concert? I wish I could relive it. I wish I could feel the wholeness I felt during that final concert. All my worries and struggles just melt away when I played that day. Even now a warm sense of comfort washes over me as I recall those days as if I were a retired old lady reminiscing her youth. I type this overly long comment for selfish reasons. Just to tell my short story with as much fluff and awe as I could pack in. To maybe have someone feel the same way about their time with music. And mainly to feel heard, and to let myself go just once in a comment section that at most, will be seen by few others. Maybe this comment will be deleted, who knows. I definitely don't. But to anyone who has decided to read all of this, thank you. Thank you so much.

We played this my sophomore year. Got a red ribbon (2) I was sick bc I practiced so much of this song. I even learned 4th octave clarinet but the fingerings was beating everyone up. But this is my favorite song nonetheless. I wish we got a 1. We still played at Carnegie hall the next year but darn.

Wow! This has been up for 3 years and I'm the first comment? SWEET! I had to find this song since it was one of my favorites to play in high school (1986). I remember our band director almost making me play three different instruments in order to cover all the parts (main: Tuba, secondary: Baritone, third: [2nd] French Horn). I believe I ended up playing some of the Baritone parts on Tuba. Ah, the memories.... 😊

This is an old song I did in band last year and now my band teacher is going to work for another school and I’ve been crying all day every one in band was. And if you are said band teacher who might be seeing this, we all love you and thanks for teaching me more than any other band director could after 2 years

My wind ensemble played this for our last concert my senior year. I got the honor of playing those cannon level bass drum hits. Crazy powerful piece to perform that totally didn't make me tear up a little that concert night lol
